Thanks Bill. This being my first time using Lumiseal I used the sponge method to test the compatibility with my paint. Turned out well but as you mentioned it didn't hold a lot of finish. I am going to try the cheese cloth method next (after I wash it lol). Thanks again!

I have two 10' fiberglass bunkerspoon rods that I am re-building. I stripped off all of the components and sanded off the old finish. I want to paint the rods black and use LumiSeal as the top coat. My question is what kind of paint should I use? I bought a can of DupiColor black trim paint asuming that if it is good for plastics it would offer some flex and I also bought a can of black epoxy pai

I understand that this blank is too heavy. My friends father wants me to build it for him, I tried talking him into something different but this is the blank he wants. Can someone please help me with guide sizing and a starting point for spacing? What is the Super Tog blank? I do a lot of black fishing and I am quite interested in hearing about it. Billy, I will shoot you an email. I woul

Hey everyone, I have a friend who wants me to build him a bucktailing spinning rod for 8-12 oz bucktails. This rod will be used for bouncing bucktails out in the deep wrecks off NJ for Doormat Fluke. I picked up a Seeker Inshore Heavy 7 which is 7'2"; 30-60lb ; 5-16oz ,8.5 Tip; 0.695 Butt; Medium Action; Heavy Power. I am going to assume he is going to use a 5000 - 7000 spinning reel. I woul

I just bought a X-Camo spinning rod kit from Mudhole for a friend of mine to take to Maine. The Blank is a one piece IM-6, 6', fast action, medium power,10-15 lb line weight, 1/2oz-1oz lure weight. I would like to know what guide spacing would be good to start with? I was going to use a rod that I have but the action is different. Any help would be appreciated.

Andres, thanks again. I have done a little more research on this topic and found a few posts by Billy Vivona with some picture references which helped out a ton! After seeing the pictures I think I am going to epoxy over the nylon without CP and see how it looks. At the moment I am working on 3 rods which are the first i have attempted to do decorative butt wraps. I will try to post some pictures

Andres, thank you for your reply. I will try a test wrap and see what happens. This is my first time using Nylon thread so I didn't know exactly how different the colors would look once epoxy was applied. I guess I will also have to stock up on some NCP so I don't have to worry about this later on. Thanks again!

Newbie question here. I am in the process of rebuilding a rod for my friends father. I have stripped the rod, wet sanded the old paint off, re-painted Navy Blue, epoxied the entire blank, and have finished the diamond wrap. For the butt wrap I used size A Nylon ProWrap along with size A PacBay metallic thread. Do I need to apply CP to the threads? This is the second time I have wrapped this parti

Can someone suggest what size guides to use when building a 9-10' bunker spoon rod using 50 lb Monel? I may consider spiral wrapping these rods due to the amount of bend in the rods when trolling.

Ken, thank you for your input on the live bait blanks. I have plenty of inshore rods at the time being plus these are too heavy and short for the trolling we do. The most trolling that I do is pulling bunker spoons for Bass but that is only on occasion. I plan on using these rods for 200 + feet of water here in NJ as well as up in Stellwagen Bank. I had a beautiful rod built by Kevin Bogan a few

Hi everyone, newbie here. I just purchased 2 Gator Blank 7'2" 50lb. IFGA / Bottom Rod's from Mudhole. I purchased these rods along with 2 lighter blanks to practice on and teach a few of my friends who are interested... the price was right. My thinking when I bought the 50lb rods would be to use these rods for offshore wreck fishing off of NJ. After receiving these rods they seem a little to
