I used the gray 3m "in between coat" scotch brite pad to lightly scuff the finish, and then used a disposable brush to wipe away any residual (no alcohol). I can see that its not exactly the same as the light gray ultrafine pads (maybe a bit coarser), but I went carefully and lightly. Applied the inscription with speedball pen and testors ink, coated with finish, and everything looks

Ah ok good, thanks for the heads up. The other gray pad seems to be much more hard to find and only at automotive supply stores.

I've got a coat of finish that i have let cure on the butt section of the fly rod I'm currently building that is going to be the inscription area. I'm using regular TM. Before I do the inscription, I know I need to scuff up the finish. The Threadmaster instructions provided by Andy Dear mention gray or maroon scotchbrite pads. I can not find what I think is the right pads, I found some "

I wrap the tiptop's purely for cosmetic purposes. The easiest way I have found to wrap tip tops are to use the small thread spools in a fly tying bobbin and wrap around it with your hand, makes it very easy and quick.

I'm getting ready to order the guides for my DanCraft FT 9ft 4wt. I've search a bunch on the forums to get some information on guide sizing. Based on what I've found this is what I've come up with:

Jim, do you have measurements of the small sized swampland reamer? I read somewhere else here while searching that the dimensions listed on the mudhole site are made without the sanding medium applied. Was wondering what the approximate measurements would be of the small sized one with the sanding medium attached. Thanks!

New on here but I've been reading/searching all day. I've built a couple of fly rods before, but it was back when I was 16, about 5 years ago. I used preformed grips for both of the fly rods. I'm getting ready to start a new fly rod here soon and I want to turn my own fly rod grip. My girlfriend's dad does woodworking and he has a lathe I can use for turning the grip. Now for my questions...
