Hello again Just finished applying Gen 4 finish to my decal. I applied a coat of high build & low build (mistake) and turned out wavey. Is it possible to sand it back as close to the decal as possible? I’m concerned about the clarity after reapplying the finish. What type or grit of sand paper would I use or am I stuck with this rookie mistake?

Quick question. Is there a technique or a way to ensure that your guide tunnels are filled correctly?

Quick question. Attempting my first build, wouldn’t putting a base layer finish before applying the decal and then applying a coat over it make the appearance raised and quite noticeable? My Rev RX7 is a matte finish and what are the consequences if I apply the decal without a base layer of finish or CP?

Quick question. I’m building a RX7 salmon/steelhead blank. When I did the deflection test per Batson’s build print, I felt the need to add another guide in the upper tip section. The question I have is, will the extra guide have any effect on the power/action on the rod? Any thoughts on this?

Has anybody tried a product made by U-40 Rod Building Products called "Cork Seal"? It is supposed to enhance the cork feel, toughen the cork, reduce chipping and degradation, and seal against dirt and oils. Is it worth using this product on my brand new premium cork handle?

You’re OK with me Gary. Judging by the number of posts, it's a very sensitive topic. The problem though, is that 99.9% of the perpetrators aren't interested in building custom rods or getting involved in other ethical fishing forums, for that matter.

Thanks Scott, I should have explained it like you did. Sorry for giving off steam on my last post, but it tees me off when people suggest that any other method other than their own is considered snagging. Oh, by the way, I did find out that the Fuji MNSG’s are a little higher in height than the LNSG’s, which is what my original post was all about.

Gary, I hope your post wasn't referring to the original post made by me (but it sounds like it). I think the guy up in Alaska is the one you might want to question on his methods. Don't jump to conclusions until you know his exact methods. Personally, I do not snag. The method that I was referring to in my proposed setup is called "drift fishing". I drift mainly with flies, and on occ

Hey, Hey, lets keep this on a more technical matter. Lets not get the Orvis boys excited!!! For the record, I catch and release. Always have, always will.....Emory, I haven't forgotten about the "guide study". I've been out of town this week. Will get in touch with you soon.

The more time I spend in this forum the more I get confused regarding guide selection on building a Sage 8# flyrod blank. I've been told high frame double foot stripper guides such as SVSG will control line slap. Then I read in this forum that LNSG double foot guides are also considered high frame guides, sort of, as compared to the non-concept NSG double foot guides. What's up? I purchased both,

Emory, The sample quantity that you stated would not be a problem. It might take me a month or so to complete the analysis (you know, government work). Email me at mark.grauf@delphi.com I think this would be very informative.

Emory... I am a materials engineer with access to ISO certified laboratory instruments, an avid fisherman, and a soon to be rod builder. If anyone would like to pursue this matter (on material evaluation of various guides), for no charge, I could give you and this forum a chemistry (elemental breakdown via EDX analysis) and accurate hardness (Vickers, Rockwell) of the major three or four ceramic

Something that I was wondering about..... A local rod builder with over 20 yrs. experience quoted me a flat rate of $10.00 per foot to build up a blank that I purchased (I will be supplying all the necessary components). His work is great, and from the looks of his shop, he's got all the right tools of the trade (i.e. lathe, customizing tools, ample supply of materials, etc.) My question is. Are

I know, I know, this is probably redundant, but can anybody tell me if there is a height difference between the standard Fuji NSG guides and the LNSG (Concept) guides in the SIC models. Has anybody measured the heights between the two? Are the guides identical? If it's a weight difference, can you visually tell the difference? If they are fairly similar, why doesn't Fuji just eliminate one or th

On an 8 wt. Sage VPS flyrod blank from the butt end, my guide sizes are #16, #12, #10, and then LSG-7J's to the tip. Here's my question. Should I go with high frame strippers (SVSG) or low frame strippers (LNSG) on these first three guides? Sage says go with low frames. Does it really matter, or am I just splitting hairs on this issue? I know somebody out there has had this dilemma.

Do you think I should stick with the SVSG 12 & 10 on the handle piece (it's a two piece rod)?

I am in the process of building up a Sage VPS 896 fly blank. I’m thinking about going with ceramics instead of snakes. I want to go with the Sic Fuji guides, but I am confused with the many different options. Can you mix Fuji concept guides with standard guides? Is there a height difference between them that I have to consider? I worry about the robustness of the single foot fly guides even tho
