3. Re: ProKote
John, the first rods I built were with Flex Coat and I didn't notice any yellowing on those but they were black rods with black thread. I have had one of those back in my shop and it looked fine. The rod I'm referring to was a white rod that the customer broke and returned for warranty. I noticed right off that the epoxy had yellowed considerably. I know of Flex Coats reputation and was not inte

Don, Their site says out of stock. I called a few weeks ago and was told possibly by the end of the month but maybe longer. I will try again. Thanks, Ron

Bill, I tried the std. Flex Coat last year and in three months it turned yellow. UV clear? I haven't seen that one but, i haven't looked at Flex coat since. I'll check it out, thanks.
Bill, would that be Ultra V?

So, does anyone have their products in stock? Looking for the 2 or 4 oz. sizes. I ordered some from a shop in Jersey on the 8th but no product yet and cannot get them to return calls or emails. I have a rod waiting to be finished and have delayed the customer way too long. Ron

I've run into a problem with the WCS winding checks in 14mm. They do not fit into the seat like the picture shows, they are just 4mm tall checks that sit in front of the seat. Personally I think it looks horrible. Also they are not stamped with the Fuji logo. I really like the way the right ones fit inside of the seat and they help center the seat.
Has anyone run into this problem? What d

Thanks guys, I'm ordering a couple of different shades and trying that.
Roger I think you're right. I have to replace three already so i may as well replace them all. He wanted me to re-tie a couple anyway because the epoxy had cracks in them.
Thanks again. Ron

Mark, can you get this vinyl at the office supply stores? What thickness do you use or is there just one?

I have a customer that needs a few guides replaced on his rods but I'm pretty new and not sure which guides are on his rods. The first is a BPS Extreme. I'm pretty sure these are Fuji BSVLG with the Hardloy inserts. The second is an older Johnny Morris spinning rod and it looks like it has the TYSG concept guides on it. They are not chrome and look like stainless but not polished. Has any one rep

I had issues with him also. I'm in Texas (2 day shipping) and it took 3 weeks to get it. Wouldn't return emails for two weeks. Said he was out of town. I've been working on the wrapper since day one to try to get it to work right. When I didn't give him a possitive feedback on @#$%& he sent me this long nasty letter about how I cost him to lose hundreds of dollars. You might be able to contact hi

Thanks for all the tips! I've done most of the mistakes listed above a time or two. Most of the problem was my piece of junk homemade wrapper I bought from #######. I think I've made it workable. I will try the braid and see if that helps. I knew I could depend on all of you to set me straight. Thanks again. Ron

I'm having a really hard time keeping the last two or three guides (from the tip) tight. It seems tight until I finish my wraps and pull the final wrap under. Then everything's loose. I'm using an 8 lb. mono. Could the diameter of the mono be too large? I've tried using the same thread that I wrap with but it tends to break before pulling the thread through. Is there a stronger thread for pulling

Thanks Lance and Steven for all the help. MHX MB843 W is in the dryer and the MB874 W is on the wrapper. Cork handles you suggested are great and the silver checks really make it look great.. Thanks for all the emails, texts and phone calls....I hope I didn't drive you up the wall. (newbie) You have a lifelong customer. I will post and send pics soon. Thanks again!

19. SK2 Rear grip
Does anyone know if the tenon on the rear grip (split grip) for the SK2 will fit the ACS seat? I know I can cut it off but was hoping it would be a good match. Thanks!

For those interested.....
The fire is about 50 miles away (Ft Worth) and was closing fast. We had a few thunder-storms pass through yesterday but they were all east of the fires. Not as much wind today and was cloudy all day so maybe that helped the fire-fighters. Has wiped out a lot of homes on the east side of Possum Kingdom Lake.
Last report was 150,000 acres burned....only one life lost. Th

24. Re: Blank Scraps
Matt, my bass club has given me plenty of old rods they have either lost guides on, broken tips off or, as they have up-graded to better rods, no longer have use for them. I would check with some local clubs. Also I tell the guys that if they give me their old ones and they need a guide replaced on ones they use, I might be able to use some guides off of those and not have to charge them for new

Can some one explain what the "quick lock" reel seat is? Or how, in this picture I borrowed from the gallery, the threads for the locking nut/hood don't show. I find without a foregrip my index finger rests on the threads (I palm my reels) and is uncomfortable. Also it is a much cleaner look. Thanks, Ron

So, do you still use the same formula for figuring out the placement of the guides. I believe it's called X27 and is it to the top of the inner guide?

So...is it ok to put rod/wrap finish over anodized winding checks? I figure it is but wanted to check with the masters first. When in doubt check the forum! Thanks!!!
