Question: When you do two layer weave, are both layers put onto the jig at the same time and only one pass is made to make the weave. I cannot think of any other way it can be done since the second wrap would cover the first pass if you make a second pass. I feel stupid in asking this question but so be it.

I use Photoshop Elements to manipulate the graphics to my liking. I then save the results in a JPEG file. I then import the JPEG into Microsoft Word and do the copy and paste to get the number (quantity) of decals I desire. Then print.

Thanks Everyone for your help: I need to think about this i.e. should I spend the extra money and get a new lathe rather than trying to use my Father's Old Old lathe by getting a new chuck for less money and have something less than satisfactory. However, if I do opt for a new lathe what horsepower motor should I be considering? So, what horsepower do you recommend?

I have an old wood lathe that my Father owned. It is a Montgomery Ward lathe which gives you some idea as to the age of the unit. The question that I have is were can I buy a chuck for it? The chuck will have to take a 1/2" shaft with a set screw,i.e. not a screw on chuck. I hope I have made myself clear as to what I'm looking for, not very good with words.

I'm not sure what the Tru-Oil container looks like but I have found that when I store partial cans of paint that if I put Saran Wrap (or similar product) over the opening of the container and then put the lid on over top the Saran Wrap it keeps the top of the paint from getting a skim built up on it.

In Volume 12 Issue 1 publication of the RodMaker Magazine there is an article describing how to make decals to use in your rod making. Here is the problem that I am having: I purchased a decal from Mud Hole that has gold printing and it shows beautifully on my black rod blanks. So I wanted to take the Logo from my Boat Name and make decals for my boat rods. I purchased the clear Vinyl sheets made

Thanks everyone. I have printed you responses and I'll have to see what I can find in the way of supplies at the local craft stores. I'm looking forward to trying to write signature. I'm new at rod building and I have twin Grandsons which I hope to build them each a rod and put my signature for posterity.

Question for you experts: If I want to add my signature to a rod would you use indian ink with pen or some other tool? Also do you epoxy over the signature or do you have to put color preserver and then epoxy i.e. what is the process? I have noticed that Mud Hole has what looks like a fine magic marker (Stock # IPEN-Color). If I use this pen what do I do to finish the job?

RodCrafters; I can't say fellow RodCrafter since I don't consider myself a crafter at this point. Her is the question: I have read Dale Clemens book titled Custom Rod Thread Art and viewed Artie Hebert's "Decorative Rod Wrapping Volume 2 Weaves" and all that leaves me short of one thing to understand. Artie says that you will probably use NCP Size A thread which wraps at about 120 th

Thanks everyone for the replies. Yes the replies are helpful to me. I am a newbie to rod building and read in Tom Kirkman's book on rod building but don't have any idea when I look at a rod blank as to what type it is i.e. I have an old rod which the wooden grips and the reel seat is destroyed but I wondered what type of rod I had in my hands. This rod is made of a milky looking glass and has fib

Can someone tell me where I can get some information as to the difference between E-Glass and S-Glass i.e. I know nothing if these type materials and would like to know about them when I see them mentioned in articles. I looked in the "Glossary" and didn't see them mentioned? Thanks Bill
