Another thing I have seen people do that ruin guides is when they hook there lures or hooks on the guide ring and not on the brace.

I usually have the long legs toward the butt as well. If you are interested, Half Hitch Tackle in Panama City, Florida has a local guy that makes them. I bought some and they are good quality and come in sets of 5 and 6. Talk to a Ron and see if they have any in stock.

Thanks, I will give them a call and find out more. How would I go about getting the Rodmaker issue that covered the Carbon grips?

I love that blank. It is used alot for a KING MACK rod off the Gulf Coast piers. It has good backbone with a tip thats light enought to throw lighter baits.

Thanks Roger, I actually saw a photo and I realized that I was going too far. Most everyone wraps to the end of the pear shape. Thanks...

Alright guys i have never really had this problem but I am wrapping some guides on my blank and I am having a little issue with the single foot side of the larger double footed new Fuji K series guide. It has a pear shape on the foot toward the single leg that goes up to the Ring brace. The point of where it narrows, my thread tends to run down toward the single brace creating some holes in the w

CSJ90 is a great blank. I use it to pier fish and it has great backbone but a soft enough tip to cast. Also the SW1089 IS STIFF. Better alternative would be the Viper AV1089.

Darrin, thank you for your input. I decided to switch to the Viper 1089. I will be throwing 3 ounce Cobia Jigs at cruising fish along the beaches. I will be using 50# PP. The SW1089 was too stiff. Alot of our casts are snap casts so I would be looking for a rod that loads easily but still has backbone to fight 20-70 pound cobia from the piers.

10. AMERICAN TACKLE
Can anyone tell me if they have tried the SW1089 series against the Viper AV1089 series? I tried to speak with someeone at AMTAC today and got some one who relayed the info to me. When I was at Mudhole I picked up two blanks and it seems the Viper is lighter and a bit more flexible even though the stats are the same in their catalog. Have any of you had any experience with these blanks?

Jim, I have been looking at those guides. I was thinking since the Knots between my braid and the leader will never pass thru my guides I should be OK with the size 8. I noticed there is a difference in the height of the T-KWAG 12.3mm and the T-KTAG 11.1mm. That might line up better with the tip. Plus I will have 300yds of the 50# braid on the spool before a knot will pass again.

The reel I will be using will be a Zeebaas 27. I think the spool diameter is close to 2.5". The front of the reel seat will be 22" from the butt. If the rod is a total 108" where would the choker guide be placed? Thanks again for your insight and realize it is just an estimated guess. I will go and test cast when i get a good starting point.

14. BSVAG ADVANTAGES
Does anyone have an idea of what the weight advantages are using the BSVAG guides using a cone of flight setup vs a wire guide setup using the same con of flight? What would be advantages if using braid only?
Wire would be 60,40,25,16,10, 8 and 8 tip
BSVAG would be 50,40,25,16,10,8 and 8 tip
It would be going on a SW1089 AMERICAN TACKLE Blank

First off I have read the article.....my question is regarding the Aluminum tubing that I tried to get at Lowes. They said they did not have any but i did see conduit. Is that what you are referring to using because those seemed heavy. Your help and direction will be greatly appreciated.

Thanks for the advice! I think what I have decided to do is use size D and make sure everything is wrapped perfect and packed solid.

The reason I ask is because I will be doing a double wrap of size A thread over guides and the transitions over each although because of it being size A the bumps are not high. I was thinking because of the high build it would end up smooth.

Just wanted to have some opinions if the under wrap is black and the guide wrap is black as well will the Threadmaster hi-build cover any perfections?

First off this is a great site but it is incredibly frustrating when having to navigate the different sites and having to re-register. I was registered before because I have looked at some of the thread art. but forgot my password so I clicked on the forgot my password and got kicked back invalid email address. I even tried to register again and entered the requested info and it says I have an in

I've looked over the past few posts and I cannot find where someone had posted instructions on making a Home made Spine Finder. I even did a search and I obviously am not doing something right because it comes up nothing. Your help would be appreciated.
Thanks,
Rick

With the Lite, do you have to apply several coats to get the thicker smooth finish or should you use one coat of the High Build? Is there any difference between durability and the effects of the action on the rod?
thanks

It has been some time since I built some rods for myself but I was going to wrap some rods for Saltwater fishing. My question is this, what type of finish should I use? I see products like High Build and Lite and I'm not sure what the applications are and how they would best benefit me. I will be using an underwrap of (A) thread in a metallic and a size C or D for the guide wrap.
Any direction
