I have a friend who broke a custom bottom rod right above the second guide. Can it be repaired ???I am concerned with size of the fish we catch here that the rod might not hold up and dont want to waste my time if it is not worth trying to save it. Any help or suggestions would be appreciated.

Roger, really? thanks for the insightful tid bit...but I think you are missing the point..thinking outside box..normal is boring...if i wanted normal would called a supplier to get info on the different brands of finish and not wasted time posting a thread ,besides i went the "normal" route several days ago on this forum.

I have noticed several posts of builders who mix different brands finishes. why do this? what does it do to the properties of the finish? I believe one builder mixes threadmaster and either aftkote or prokote..what is the final result? Could someone please elaborate for me, as i wish to do some experimenting but don't want to waste too much time.

Ya'll are probably right...rod holders are likely the culprit and my first guess...but according to the customer they are custom rod holders with soft rubber inserts to keep the rods from getting banged up....which was one of the reasons he wanted split grips in the fisrt place. Ive never used another finish besides flex coat lite..as i have become comfortable with both of them....I assume with

Anyone had any issues with flex coat high build chipping off from over abalone? used 4 coats over the abalone in the split grip...customer says that the finish is cracking and peeling off of 2 of the 4 king rods i built him and only in the split grip section....at first a thought it could be the rod holders fault, but he has soft cushion inserts inside the rod holders so now i'm confused. i hand

i already told him that the movement of the rod tip during jigging there could be a possibility that the line could get fouled up,along with other disadvantages such as being heavy etc. he doesn't seem to budge an inch in his thinking...so i thought maybe i was missing a specfic application that im not familiar with

Encluding the catch and release of a white marlin. Now he wants some lighter trolling rods to be used for Kings. He did say that he wants unibutts on these rods as well to match his others. There are plenty of blanks out there that fi
