There is no greater satisfaction then whatching my kids fish with their own rods. I have a sense of pride thet they have a sense of pride that Dad built it just for them.
They sure take much better care of the rods I build, then any rod I have bought them.

Just finished rods for the family that fit that bill.
All with Shimano 2500's 10# braid, guides 16, 8, 6, 4's out to the tip. Casts unweighted plastics and small spoons fantastic, and to my surprise, no wind knots. The no wind knots seem to be the biggest plus for me, kids are fishing more and I am taking out less knots.

I space based on the 27x method for spinners and start with traditional guide set up for casting rods and then do a static guide placement excercise to tighten everything up to my likening, this is also how I do my fly rods. I just use what ever mono I have for backing usually 15lb trilene xl. 10 and 15 GSP I just like the way they cast better, I haven't broke or cut one since I started using it.

Phil,
Blanks all fast action 6'6" to 7'6", lines, 6-12, 8-14, 8-17. guides used 3's and 4's. For casting I have used 3's all on top and 4's all on top. Spinning using the 27x method with runners at both 3's and 4's.
Use power pro, stren, and fusion crysal braided lines either 10 of 15 pound test. Use flouro eithe 9, 12, 15, or 20 depending on the bottom,(sand, mud, grass, oysters)

I exclusively use micros on all of my red fish and speck rods. Not only have I noticed a increase in casting ease, but a large reduction in wind knots from braided lines. And yes flouro leaders will pass through.

I have sped up considerably on my last rod. It seems I have made a break through from what you are feeling, but it has taken a while, and I have been building more frequently lately. Going from wrapping a couple eyes in an evening to wrapping the entire rod in and finishing in one evening.
Not only am I faster but my quality has improved greatly.
My wife mentioned this to me last night,&

I have started using EVA and am loving it. In the heat in deep south texas it also seem to keep a better grip for me. I also like the look with colored winding checks, an easy way to class up a rod. My friends and kids are loving their new rods with eva split grips from swampland, aero reel seats, amtak micros, and the show blanks they offered for a while. Makes an economical and high performing

How long do you wait between coats on guide wraps?
I can not get a finish without bubbles. When I put if on it looks great no bubbles, wait an 1 1/2 hours, still no bubbles, and then apply one more coat.
Wake up in the morning and there are bubbles in the finish.
And it was looking so nice.
Any help would be appreciated. I have searched for this and people have written wait 1 to 2 h

13. Re: Line slap
I only have that happen when fishing off the jetty with 50# big game line on a spinning rod and trying to chuck it way out there. Never with my inshore set ups. I think it is the stiff line that uncoils it self.

with a spinner i fish with the stem between my pinky and ring finger, I have felt a stiff line hit my hands before, but only when I am really trying to reach out there on a cast.

I just finished a casting rod with all 3's on top and fished it for the first time this saturday on the flats here on South Padre Island, TX. I use 15# power pro with a 10" 15# flouro leader. I was amazed how well it would cast. I am a spinning rod guy usually. Sight casting weedless plastics on the grass flats no problem, just . The reds here though are not shy about leaders. I would just r

I would think most of you guys with two rods in one day is much nicer than the two weeks it takes me.
Although, I can bang out a buch of tax returns in one day and not get one letter from the IRS.
I only wish I had the time, confidence, and money to build more rods.
Building one right now for a friend who had major surgury, week 2, hoping I finish it before he is cleared to go fishing, l

Here in the Lower Laguna Madre, TX I use a Dan Craft FT 5wt most mornings lined with 6wt line, 7wt lined with 8wt when the wind is blowing.
The Dan Craft's can fire line through the wind and have plenty of power deep in the rod when you got your drag wrenched up.
Built mine with single foot wire guides all the way, exept for stripper, realized having a clean line is more important than gui

I ordered five of them blanks from swampland. My kids, my wife, and I are all going to have some nice new rods for the summer on the cheap.
I called castaway regarding a couple of the models and was surprised what I was told. A couple of the blanks I got will never see the market place due to them being to specialized. They will not sell enough to justify the production of them. Yet they fit

I use that model on my 7, 8, and 9 wt's. Wen to the the larger presidential for my 12wt. They have worked flawlessly for me in the salt that I almost exclusively fish now. For my go to rod on the flats for red fish, a dan craft ft 5wt, i use a lighter reel that better balances the lighter outfit.
But, for the price and performance the trion has been my favorite.

That will work, it is not the easiest platform for you to work with but it is economical. The program will first load inventory to Inventory Asset, then when you apply it to your "job" (Rod Build) it will create a different Inventory Asset, then when you sell the rod, these parts and your labor costs, that was billed to that job, will be put into Cost of Goods Sold. The inportant part i

EPS or XTS(blue Board) will hold up fine with epoxy. It will not hold up up to polyester styrene.
Traditional Surfboard blanks are polyester and will handle anything. Now they are blowing EPS blanks also which can only be coated with epoxy.
I have built two surfboards with foam from building materials. The blue foar, XTR and coated with West Systems epoxy and it did great. That is with tr

22. Re: 9wt blank
I only use a 9wt when it is really windy, my go to is a Dan Craft 5wt ft. I also like a 7wt when it is blowing but not 25 mph. I almost exclusively throw spoon flys when I am wading the flats for reds and the 5 wt is fine for them.
Under $100 seems like it will be difficult. Look at the 7 wt kit from Dan Craft, I think it is around $200, but you will not be sorry.

A great place to get good insight is at .
I already flyfishing for years in the Great North West growing up. But moved to South Padre Island, Texas and had to learn a whole new fishing technique. These guys were great in how to properly set up a kayak for fishing both beyind the breakers and the flats. They also have a fly fishing section and traditional saltwater section.

My first rod was a Dan Craft 5 wt. There was nothing cheap about the build, nice guides, reel seat, and grips. I did keep it simple though, one color wraps and did one metaalic turn on the ferrules.
It came out with some flaws, but man does it cast like like a dream. And I have caught so many nice Redfish on that rod it is killing me. My freinds are all jealous and love that rod. Now we are a

I use an old offshore rod cut down to 5' as a stake out pole for my Kayak while inshore fishing. I have used PVC, aluminum tubing, and broken tops of sailboarding masts, the old fishing rod is the best for my aplication.
It is silent while stalking tails and can penetrate even the most stubborn shell bottom.

Here is a private letter ruling regarding the 60% selling price, it explains this very well. I have not come across this before, thanks for keeping us informed.
This ruling further defines the constructive sales price for Fishing Rods, and section 4216(b) which states:
c) Special rule —(1) Basis for tax. Where a manufacturer, producer, or importer sells an article at retail, to a ret

I can recomend a FT blank from Dan Craft. I recently built a FT 904-5 as my low wind flats caster. It has landed Red fish up to 29" and can punch through 10-15 mph wind with ease yet can cast short for that sudden tail that pops up.
This rod is a joy to fish with. It out performs my Scott Xi2 and my Sages. I wish I could justify building in the heavier ranges to replace those other rods,
