I'm one of those UL guys, and the owner of ULFF, all I fish is 3wt and lighter.

Hello, I want another 3wt rod for myself and I am looking at the matrix 9' 3wt (9' is my main preference) as an option and maybe one of their shorter 3wt blanks as well. Does anyone have any experience with the 9' blank? My normal casting distances are in the 15-50' range and would prefer a blank that can fish in that range with a 3wt line.

Bill, your best bet is to talk to Jim West in the Orvis rod shop. That is the only way I know of to get a blank from them before they are officially released for sale. Some of went that route before the Superfine Touch blanks were released for sale.
I don't have the number for the rod shop now, but would call corporate and ask to speak to Jim West in the rod shop.

Ben,
Am I reading this right? Orvis is going to use single foot guides with inserts?

Bill,
I'd like to try and make it this year, sounds like fun. I'm in Stark Co. myself.

Phil, I've cast the RX6 2pc 2wt and didn't care for it.
Has anyone here built the RX8 and fished it? Does it fish a 2wt line in normal small stream situations, or does it need to be overlined in the 15'-30' range?

Well, it's a 6'6" small stream stick. In that length, and marked as a 2wt, it should cast and fish well in the 15-30 foot range. As we all know, not all little 2wt rods cast and fish a 2wt line worth a crap within normal small stream fishing conditions. It should have an ERN in the 2's for that kind of work. So, basically, I would like to know if the XF662-4 really fishes a 2wt, or does it n

10. Batson RX8 2wt
Hello,
I was wondering if any of you have built the Rainshadow RX8 XF662-4. How fast is it, and is it a real 2wt, or more of a 3wt?

Darrin, thanks for the product plug. I've looked at some of your ceramic fly guides, and I am interested in some of them. I have a set of Fuji ceramics for a future build. On another note, I've noticed that you don't have a ceramic fly tip top with a 3.5 diameter tube. It seems that no other company does either. Maybe you should look into that, since there are more rods than ever with 3.5 tips.

Tom, it just seems that the Hialoy rings have too much friction when I'm stripping in line.

Thanks for the replies. I'm not trying to gain any casting distance, that's not the issue. The issue is friction while stripping line. I clean my lines often and use Russ Peaks line dressing, I have been meaning to try the Zip Cast to see if that will help any.

Hello, first post here. I have been using PacBay Hialoy stripping guides on my fly rod builds, and I am not totally happy with them. What ring type out there is the slickest?
Thanks,
Jeremy
