What brannds do you suggest. I purchased one set of guides but do not know the brand name and they were not well made. I had to bend everyone of them sifnificantly to straighten them out. The other brand was a hopkins and holloway with an american twist and the were considerabley better made.

I have purchased a very slow fiberglass rod and am getting ready to order guides for it and was looking at the guides on the hopkins and halloway website at their FAQ's and read their statement. I have built two other rods but both were medium fast and have not had aproblem with them but after their statement wondered if I should order the english pattern.

When you look at a diagram of the two patterns on their web site looking down the center of the guide from the butt of the rod to the tip the american pattern has more of a tear drop shape while the english pattern is more round like a single food guide. Could this cause a different wear pattern considering the action of the rod or do you think I should not be concerned.

In reading the Hopkins and Hollaway web site they suggest using the english pattern guides on softer slower action blanks beause of reduced wear in the guides. Has anyone else encountered this problem with American pattern snake guides and would you recommend using the English pattern on slow action rods. Thanks for any comments.

The reel seat is a pacific bay I am not sure of the model it looks similar to a UL3 but the insert is already glued and appears to be acrylic but the end cap is not already attached. The inside diameter of the reel seat is approximately .425 but the last 3/8th of an inch where the threading is the inside diameter is

I am in the process of building my first fly rod and will be using U-40 Rod Bond for installing the reel seat and have a few questions on installing the reel seat. 1. If I use drywall fiberglass tape for arbors as referenced in Tom Kirkman's book do you tack the first wrap of the tape on each side or at the back of the first wrap and is the final wrap tacked at the end and not the sides. 2
