Many years ago Buck Perry of Hickory, NC developed spoons and techniques for their use in fishing for bass. Does anyone out there know if these spoons are still available and/or how they were used? I know I fished with a guy in the late 1960's who used these spoons and trolled at that time but can't remember how he did it. I'd sure appreciate any help I can get on this. Please feel free to e-mail

I know this has been covered many times here so I apologize for asking beforehand. I'd like to make myself a 9' spinning rod for 1/16 to 1/8 oz. jigs and float n' fly fishing for smallmouth and panfish. I can't find a 9' spinning blank rated this light. I was thinking of using a fly blank, but know nothing about what weight to order. I need to stay under $75 for the blank and was looking at ATC M

I want to add an extra guide on one of my poles. The guides on it are underwrapped with red thread and I want to match this with the extra guide. My question: Do I put some kind of finish on the underwrap before I put on the guide?.........If so, what kind of finish do I use?.......The only fod finish I have is Cabela's and it is high-build stuff.........MANY THANKS in advance

Mike, I'm a newbe here and am working on my first build now. I used the motor from a microwave turn-table which is 6RPM. I used 1/2X5' boards and cut the bases 5" long. To these I screwed the uprights and they are 3 1/2" OA high with a 1" deep shallow V-notch for the motor shaft on one and the other to lay the rod in. On this one for holding the loose end of the blank I used

I'm still a newbe here, but am well on my way on my first build. I cannot thank all you folks enough for the help and encouragement and much technical information you've given freely. If it were not for this site I probably never would have tried making my own rod. I've read here from time to time of ideas for a mandrel to ream handles. I was once into another hobby which required a long ta

Want to attempt my first build. Have ordered a Batson IST1025 blank. It's 8.5' med-heavy. Question is on guides.Would like Fuji Concept Alconites. All the guide sets for such rods supply size 16 running down to size 7's. Would there be anything wrong with a size 12 for the rear guide running down to size 6's for the upper guides? Was thinking BLNAG 12, BLNAG 10, BLNAG 8, BLNAG 7, Then all BLAG 6

Folks I'm new to all this and am trying to learn here and from reading. I want to build a med-heavy salmon rod but want it to be as light as possible. My question: Berkley puts stainless guides on some of their poles and they "look" like they are much lighter than any ceramic guide. None of the catalogues I have list such guides. Has anyone used such guides with braid line and can you g

I'm not a bass fisherman strictly speaking though I'm not afraid to experiment wnen I fish and find what is hitting what. I fish with spinning, spincast and round baitcast reels(mostly Abu Garcia 5600 C4's. have never used the low-profile bait-casters. My question: Will the low-profile casting reels enable me to cast farther and cast better into the wind? Diawa advertises that their new reels wit

I've never built a rod and only know what I've read about it.........So, I have a 9' 2-piece graphite steelhead blank and would like to try to build a casting rod on it. I just got a catalogue from Mudhole and the ATC Vetre handles look good to me (I'm mainly looking for sensitivity and Durability) Has anyone out there used these handles enough to comment on these 2 requirements? .....ALSO, woul

I've been using KRYLON FUSION (for plastic) for some time on catfish rods for night fishing. I use the yellow and the white on both fiberglass and graphite rods. It's not florescent but it really is visible in these two colors and is flexible enough to not affect rod action. I just wipe the rod with regular alcohol first and then apply the paint. I buy the paint at Lowes and WalMart but be sure t

Does anyone out there know how to remove the wraps and guides on a BnM trolling pole. I've never built a rod and know it would be far easier to start with a new blank, but have never found exactly what I want in a new blank. The front two sections on this 14' pole have the action/power I'm looking for and would make about a 9' spinning rod. BnM wasn't stingy when it came to laying on the epoxy o
