Ok guys, I have to admit that I really want to try some marbeling but unfortunately I am one of the few that is still doing everything by hand. No power mixers, rod dryers, power wrappers. NOTHING power except my cordless drill which I use to form cork and also to drill out inserts and then to shape (YES it takes forever to do it this way.) Yes, I am being cheap and should really cough up th

Ok Tom, You have me wondering now. So by reading what you said if I am building a bass rod say a 6'6" or 7'0" then I could start out with a 12 then single foot ten and finish out with 6's all the way to the tip? Sorry if I am overthinking this but I am a bit confused right now. Tom Kaufmann SSgt USMC.

I normally use beat up old lead head flipping jigs that I have laying around. Saves you from having to spend more money, unless you are going to let a child use this and prefer not to have a leadhead crashing into everything in sight.

Something that I have tried and is a bit different is to use a wood button. I install them inverted and have no problems with them popping out. I have stained them to come closer in color to the tone of the rubberized or natural cork that I am using. I usually use the oak ones found at Home Depot. You may like the look of it or absolutely hate it??? Check it out if you have the time. Tom Kauf

Bill, most of what I have are the All Stars from Andy Dear but I do have some St Croixs that I picked up from Richard at Richard's rod and reel. I am going to build the Croix's for myself if I ever get caught up on everyone else's projects!!! Ya have to love the Avid and Elite blanks!! Tom Kaufmann SSgt USMC

John, For most any of the adhesives that you are going to be using for rodbuilding you will find that isopropyl alcohol will cut all of them. I have used it for expoxys and finishes (an epoxy also). Hope that this helps ya out a bit. Tom Kaufmann SSgt USMC.

Yes, it is a bass blank and pretty good one at that for the money. I am extremely partial to St. Croix as I was born and raised in WI and like to help out fellow statesmen as much as possible. Yes, there is a difference between California and Wisconsin cheese, Wisconsin's is MUCH better!!!!! (am currently stationed in Ca.) They do make a 6 footer with the same specs as the 5'6". Just to let

Bill, I will help ya out with this one. Go ahead and order it up, I am sure that he is going to like it. If you get it and are unhappy shoot me an email and I will take it off of your hands. I do have one suggestion for you. I have picked up some of the BAT727 that Andy Dear had and they are definately HEAVY action and if cut down will be more than even the SCIII that you are currently looking at

Dave, I too love the bumper system and am currently employing it on all of my personal rods as well as using it for others who I build for. I've applied all of the leadership skills that I have gathered over my 13 yrs in the Corps, however the stubborn old guy (Father) (former Army) wont buy off on it. I have let him use mine and have shown him the great works of Mr Forhan and yet he still is

Good morning/afternoon to all of you, I was doing a little wrapping this morning and I came up with a question that I didn't find an answer for in the archives. What is the advantage of the Fuji concept on a conventional casting (person doesn't want spiral) vice the standard setup. I usually find that I can get away with 7 guides on a 6'6" caster for bass ie... 783 but the Fuji gu

Ralph, You truely are a master!! You all may think that I am sick and twisted and will wonder why in the world I would do this but I happened to have a GL3 SJ722 in the truck that I am taking fishing after I get off of work . Just as Ralph stated it took only about 15-20 seconds or so and the little puppy popped right off. Way to go Loomis, NOT!!!!!!!!!!!!!! anyway thanks for the great idea

Spencer and Pavel, I think that I just may order both and set them up and keep which ever the person does not want. Heck, they may even decide that they "can't live without it" like I usually do!! One of these days, I am going to decide that I really dont NEED all of the junk that I have but what fun would that be anyway? Billy, I will try to give the folks a shout over at CTS som

Very slick Billy, I am going to give it a try. I will put up some pic's once I get it done. Where did you get your tubing? I was looking at Jann's for the ultralight and fishsticks4U for the bass rods. Tom

Have any of you tried doing a split grip with the woven graphite tubing? I was thinking of using a traditional cork butt with a short section of the woven graphite for the grip behind the seat. What do you think? I was looking at doing one for a bass rod and I was going to do a tenn style on a ultra light. Speaking of ultra light. Who do you think has the best blank out there in a 5-6 footer f

Does anyone know where I can get some of the painted Fuji seats? I would also like to know where I can find the colored winding checks. These things are just TOO cool. I saw them at Merrick but I don't have a liscence so I am out of luck. thanks, Tom

Wow, what do ya know. I didn't hose it up!!! I guess since I am used to seeing it "spiral" just as you stated like on the rod that Mr. Forhan built for me. Not taking a thing away from his rod, it is an AWESOME piece to fish with. Just wish that I could let the other half let me place an order a few more!! It just seems that the simple spiral is almost out of place. Again, you are r

Thanks Tom, I just looked at it and the article again. It looks like everything is just as it should be. I guess I am just not used to seeing it flow through the bumper in the way that it does. Once again, thanks for all of the great articles and information. Tom

Good evening everyone, Hope that everyone is staying cool right now. I have yet another question for you all. I built a bumper wrapped spiral rod last night and used a double footed #8 for the "bumper guide". This is one of the Amtaks and I am wondering if needs to be a single foot fly? The line just doesn't seem to flow through it correctly. Not so sure since this is the first bum
