Joe, I've built a few fly rods for Tarpon along the coast of Florida and I use size 20, 16, and 12 casting style line guides for the stripping guides and then use size 5 & 6 REC Recoil Snake guides (RSNX) for the rest of the guides. I bought the Helmsman Gloss. I used two coats, sanded after the 2nd, and have applied a final third coat. Looks pretty darn good. The person that wants it (he wants 2) wants a more affordable rod (than Sage, Loomis) that is fast (tight loops) and he casts 60-80 feet of 12 wt sinking line with a 3 inch 3/0 or 4/0 streamer. Most of the fishing is blind casting the passes for tarpon. I've b

I've built 20+ saltwater fly rods and have been using the REC Titanium guides on the last few. I like the lighter weight and I have noticed that they simply do not corrode like some of the Nitride and other SS Coated guides. I usually use the two footed snake guides on all but the heaviest of line weights (12+). Actually I've only built one rod w/o snake guides and I used the Fuji SIC Fly gui
