Bill,
I wouldn’t be so concerned with line rating, but more with the application you are using the rod for. I’m building a Tog rod on the same blank right now and my intentions are to use 50lb braid with a 40lb top shot of mono. Bottom fishing for Blackfish, Seabass, Ling and fluke will not overstress the blank. The heavier line is required to help with fraying from the wrecks and rock agai

I have tried making a few Tiger Wraps (2) but couldn’t really get a good idea of how the finished wrap would look until epoxy and the top wrap are applied. I was thinking of taking a clear piece of flat plastic and wrapping with the double thread, removing the sacrificial thread and apply some epoxy. I think I would be able to lay this over my unfinished base wrap to get an idea of what the fi

Corrosion is the thing I am concerned about. If the guide is stainless and the plating is a dissimilar metal when we file the foot down we expose the two metals. If water (Saltwater) get under the epoxy as it was eventually will you will have electrolysis occur between the two metals.

When you file the ends of the guide foot to taper a smooth transition for the thread do you coat the filed area with anything to protect for corrosion?

It really depends on the size of the bait you be catching, line weight and weight on the end of the Sabiki. Here in NJ they catch Herring in the inlet and most guys use a medium spinning in the 7 to 8 foot range.

I made a spinning rod using a camo blank for my son at X_Mas. The wraps were just olive and it came out nice. If you used olive with some brown and other muted color trim bands I bet it would look good. A felt permanent sharpie may work if the have the color you want or marbleize the wraps.

Yes the seller and blank manufacturer are both sponsors. It is a light action 2 piece fresh water blank. I’m not a professional builder but I have built rods since I was 19 and now I am 53. To me it just doesn’t look right. Maybe it is nothing or maybe it is something. But I don’t want to build the rod and find out later that it was a something. It has an imperfection at the area where

I have a question regarding a blank I just purchased. I received the blank on Wednesday and I notice what looks like some imperfections in the upper section ferrule area. It’s a two piece light spinning blank. I was concerned about stress fractures over time. I contacted the seller the same day via email and asked to have the blank replaced. I was told that they couldn’t replace the blank a

You can burn the cork to give it a darker molted effect. Kind of like a camoflage, Use a propane torch and keep it moving.

Sent you an email with the spreadsheet I created that breaks down the taper in 1" increments.

I am assuming a straight taper. So far it has been close enough for fitting reel seats, grip and winding checks for me. I guess a blank could have a non-straight but I think for general fitting/buying components it would still be close enough. I not am a professional rod builder, I only build for myself, so I don't have components at hand. I need to buy for every rod I build so where it has h

I created an excel spreadsheet where I put in the tip size (in decimal) and the butt size and total length in inches and it gives me the diameter at at every inch of the blanks length. If you email me I can email the speadsheet to you. ~ Phil

Hello to all,
New to posting here. I'm build a convertinal vertical jigging rod and I would like to spiral wrap it. Can I get a few opinion on using a simple 0-90-180 spiral vs the slow 0-10-45-135-180 spiral. With so much bent in the rods I'm not sure if getting line under as fast as possible is better then the slow spiral. Thanks in advance.

Yes you need more heat then a hair dryer can deliver. Also look in Lowes or Home Depot paint section for a Wanger paint removing heat gun. Don't hold in one place too long - keep is moving.
