Tom:
I did not not have the blank vertically and with severe pressure on it, I had it the way I normally do which is horizontal with minimal pressure on it. I did go over ths situation with Sean at MudHole and he has sent out another blank. Mudholes customer service and attention to details makes them a great sponsor to work with. They go above and beyond the call of duty. Lesson learned, I

I will follow up with MudHole and see what feed back they give. Like I said not pointing the finger or passing the buck, just wondering why ? How much of the action is affected with 6"of the tip off ? I know it will not be as sensetive, but will it still be useable ?
Thanks for all the replies.

Tip to the floor simply means I ouyt the tip on the floor and looked for the blamk to jump to the natural bend in it. I di dnot put any more pressure than I normally do. Tom I did not pinch the blank in anyway. I'm not looking to pass the blame or point fingers, just never happened before. I will call MudHole and see whst they say, since I got the blank from them...
Thanks for the feed

I was wondering if this has ever happened to anyone, I have spined many blanks before and never had the problem. I just got an MHX surf blacnk from one of the sponsors here and while trying to locate the spine the first 6 inches snapped off pretty clean. No splinter or excessive fray ?? Not blaming the blank, could have been the way I was trying to find the spine which is the same way I always

I had the pleasure of meeting Bernie at my first NERB gathering in Long Island back in 2007 i beleive. At Trophy Tackle sponsored by Billy V. Bernie gave me a hands on tutorial on inlays that day and took his time to explain in details until I was ok with his instructions. He will be missed and we will keep him in our prayers R.I.P. Are they no longer a sponsor ?/ I saw they were here yesterday, I tried to get on their link and it kept re-directing me to an unrelated site ? I sent them an email and they said they would contact their web host. Have not heard back from them, just checking to see if it a technical issue or they are no longer on here.
Thank You

22. What type of Rod
Hello Everyone:
I have a co-worker that paid his dad a visit in Michigan, he wants me to build him a rod for fresh water. He stated the rod was about 11-12 ft long not a surf rod but long a s one with a spinning reel. I'm not sure what type of rod this would be or what type of blank would be used. The only thing I can think of might be a noodling rod ? I'm not even sure what type of rod that i

Hi Gabe:
I did a Yankee themed rod for a co-worker , while my grips were not as great as Billy's they did have the accent rings but not the NY, I used some tattoofor the name and logo
it turned out nice I also use some baseball stickers that i placed under the guides and also a baseball bat above the foregrip,. If I can fin d the pictures I will post them. Good Luck.

Hey Billy
Great presentation on turning the block into a very nice grip. Guess if I really want to try my hands on that I should start saving some $$. I guess the old drill as a lathe will only go but so far. Never a dull moment always something new out there.
Take Care.

Thanks to all for the replies, I'm not sure how often I wan to do this, but as with anything else involved in this craft it becomes addictive. I have some small wheels I can use to make a support.
Was just wondering if a drill would do the work. WHo knows, if I likre it I may have to invest in a lathe..Ken your second post had me on the edge of my seat.

How hard is it to turn EVA block from using a drill? ince I do not have a lathe? I have seen some nice work turned out lately using EVA blocks with multiple colors and was very interestted in trying this. I havce done some checkered grips and they look nice, thought about trying something a little different. Billy Good Luck in the Jersey gathering.

Thanks for all the input no sense in beating a dead horse anymore, I have went ahead and epoxied the guides etc. With a lack of time and trying to keep a baby away from the drier. I set up shop in the bed room until the rod was good enough to pull off the drier. Roger I was comtemplating on re-wrapping that may have had me with reservations about the expoxy. Now I'll have to wait until next year

I had a spiral wrapped rod all ready to go, a personal rod,but it will not be used until next year. I was thinking of placing the rod in a plastic sleeve and placing into storage until next year without applying expoxy to the guides. Then I thought what happens if while in storage they become loose or damaged ?
So I was thinking of appyling one coat of epoxy then putting in storage and recoat n
