Thanks Guys! I a actually a big fan of the Spiral Wrap, I have done quite a few rods with that wrap but this is for an Old School Tuna guy who is very set in his ways and what he wants! Thanks for those spacing recommendations Mike. I will give it @#$%& and let you know how it comes out! Now I just have to figure out how to put enough load on this rod to do the static line test....

Hi All, Well it has been a while since I have built a rod but recently had a good friend ask me to build him a new Tuna Rod. I have decided to build his rod with the Seeker Wicked 80/130 Blank. However I have been unsuccessful in trying to get guide spacing's from Seeker (or anyone) for this rod. Is there anyone out there that might be able to help me out with this? It is a 7' Blank and I am

Hey Billy, I was looking for a light weight blank ..... so probably a graphite one..... I am up in the air on a lenght???? I have heard +/- on both long vs. short. I was thinking somewhere in the 6'-7' range! The reel I have in mind is the 1800 Shimano Saragosa, or if I go Conventional an Avet Series (not sure which one??) Jig weight between 4-8 oz. I know this might be a little vauge but I am

Hi All, Well I am finally getting back into building rods after a breif interuption due to Mariage and a new baby!!! I am looking to build a couple of Jigging Rods for small bluefin.... I saw a couple of threads on the GUSA and Super Seeker blanks but was wondering if anyone has used the CTS blanks yet??? Specifically the @#$%& or BJ series (spinning blanks)??? I have heard great things about th

Sorry Nick! I forgot about those!!! I also have 3 Abu 6500 that I use for Fluke... Very good reels as well! But I do not think they cast as well as the Shimano's. I know some guys have had custom sets of berrings made for their Abu's that seem to improve the reel even more. But none the less a great reel for the money.

Hey Lon, I am a big Shimano fan and have a couple of buddies that have used the cardiff for Fluke fishing here on the east coast. Althought they are not as costly as the Calcutta's or others they do not perform as well under the preasure of big fish. And lets face it a Fluke will not test a reel like a Salmon would! I have learned the hard way and in my opinion it would be worth the few extra do

Hey all, I have been getting my cork from Cabelas for the past year with very good quality "select rings", however their quality has since seemed to diminish and I was wondering if anyone had any recomendations on another vendor??? I know Mud Hole has Bulk packages but my concern is more of the quality of rings..... I would like to stick to "select rings" as opposed to the hi

Very similar idea as the Cape Fear (which are also on the pricey range!) However this is my favorite live bait stick for Stripers!!! It is a Hexagonal Blank with what they call T-Cell technology. Check them out...... I know the make fly rods as well....As far as working with a hexagonal blank I don't think there would be much difference between the 2 so what type of questions do you have? You can

Hey Tom, as far as a Flounder Blank goes, I had found a great article on this and some rod recomendations from the author. I can't seem to locate it on my lap top but I know I have it printed off at home. Send me a e-mail and I will send you back the information. Tom

Hey Pete, I am currently building a SCII 7' MH St. Croix and the but sections on these rods were 3/4". I was at the auto shop the other night picking up some sheets of cork for the handles and they had a pyrimid shaped drill bit that work out great! Got it close with the drill and then finnished it off with the reamer! You can make your own reamers from old rods if you have any that you are

Hey Sean, I think it is safe to assume we have all gone a little crazy at one point or another!!! LOL But with that said I think that the Titanium Guides from Fuji are the lightest, single foot even better! I would think tht it would be safe to assume that size A thread would be lighter than D unless you go down to the silk threads which are size OO (typically used on fly rods.... As far as th

Hey all, I have looked on almost every site to the left and can't find anyone who sells the EVA square 2x2 blocks, except for Merrick which is a wholesale dealer! Anyone know where I can find it? Or did I miss it somewhere? Also, can you get the blocks in the camo patterns as well? Thanks, Tom

Hey All, I am about to start building a 9wt Horizon for Salt Water and I was chatting with the rod maufacturer. He mentioned that the only con for single foot guides is that they could slip out of the wrap under a lot of strain!?!? Has this ever happened to anyone? I was going to go with the new Fuji Single Foot Titanium guides. Don't want to spend the money if they will pop out on me! Tha
