Bill, I just finished up a rod using the Pac Bay blank you referenced. Really happy with it and should make a good, fishable rod. Highly recommend that blank.

Have to agree with Matt and Tom, posting above. Fought the problem with these tag ends constantly and found their solutions to work great.

Daniel, nice to know I am not alone in little problems with the first rod, so I'm glad you posted your question and appreciative of the replies you received. My biggest problem is/way beginning the very first wrap or two, especially on the blank tip end and still trying to refine that. Maybe a new pair of eyes would help. 8. Rod Breakage
Does anyone have any personal, first hand knowledge of rod breakage due to improper placement of guide relative to the blank(s) spine? Building my first rod and understand the conventional wisdom re: spine and guide placement but having a very hard time locating the spine on the tip section, even after lots of research and effort re same. No problem with the butt section (2 piece 8.5' IM6 5wt) A
