I just make a ramp from the epoxy itself. Spin the rod, put epoxy on the blank and let the centrifugal force move it to the grip or reel seat. Smooth with finger with IA on it. Takes about a minute.

I use the "LED Light Headband Head Glasses Magnifier Reading Antiques Jewelry Stamp Repair Tools 4 Lenses." The light is useless but there are 4 different lenses so you can be sure one will work for you. I purchased 2 of them at Harbour Freight for under 10.00 each with a coupon. they work great.

Shawn,
We have all made the exact same mistakes (learning opportunities) you made on this rod. I think it is better to get some cheap blanks to start on, or as someone suggested, pipe or dowel rods. It gets better the more you do. Don't get discouraged. There is a knack to it all and experience is the best teacher.

Gary,
We use thread and then cover with finish. This is the same look as on most surf rod. You can use winding checks if you can get the correct size.

I have a family member in the Coast Guard who is moving to Kodiak Alaska and wants a rod for salmon fishing. Does anyone know a good blank to use for salmon fishing there. I have no idea what would be a good blank, length, power, action, etc and they apparently don't either. Any help is appreciated.

Bill,
This FUJI rod dryer does not use nor does it need rubber bands to hold the rod securely in place. The prongs hold it without any effort. You may be thinking of a different model. I also can not think of a situation where the prongs could be damaged from someone stepping on the dryer. I use mine on my work bench and have not had an instance where I came close to stepping on the dryer.

yes, it is nice to be able to put a rod in the dryer "jaws" and not have to worry about the rod falling out. Also, the ability to put a rod tip in the clamp makes it easy when you just need to do a single piece of a multi piece rod. I actually liked it so much I bought a second dryer. Really good product.

Bill, No rubber bands are required. The prongs hold the blank in by themselves.

15. Fuji Rod Dryer
I was looking for a new rod dryer and after looking at several options decided to go with the FUJI FMM2 Finishing Motor and Stand. I was really impressed with this dryer. The dryer uses prongs to hold the rod and does not allow any slippage. The rod goes in or out in a second. The prongs are coated with plastic sleeves and holds the blank or grip without leaving any marks. I have found it can fir

I have donates a few. Typically the thank you comes when you give it to them or at the raffle itself. I have typically done it as a favor for someone hosting the raffle and not so much for promotion. I wouldn't expect a lot in return.

I am looking for an additional Rod Dryer and am looking at the Sully Double Rod Dryer at Mudhole and the Fuji FFM2 dryer (has the unique clip holder). Has anyone had any experience with either of these dryers?
Thanks,
Ron

I talked with a rod builder from England recently and he mentioned something they used in rod building called "dope." He said it is put on guide thread wraps before the finish is applied, and it causes the thread to tighten around the guide foot a little more than initially wrapped. Has anyone heard of this product and possibly used it? If so, is there any advantage? He said the term &

Are there any vendors on here who sell wood grips? I thought there was one in Wis, or Minn. There was one at the last Expo but I can not recall his name.

Don,
I just checked hotwire.com and they had a compact car for rent from the Greensboro airport for $15.95 a day from Friday at noon to Sunday at 3pm. With everything it was $68.00 total. I do not know your times so I guessed. I have rented from them many times and find it very conveinent and inexpensive. At times the prices will go up but if keep checking back you can find a good deal. It bea

I was talking to a fellow rod builder who indicated that someone purchased the rights to the original Clemens Wrapping Machines and might soon be making the machines. Has anyone else heard anything about this?
Thanks,

I use a 6 inch bench grinder from Harbour Freight, Item #43533, that has a grinding wheel and a wire wheel. Its small, great for guides and the wire wheel takes of any burrs. Fits easily on any bench or can be put away if space is needed. @$34.00. I also use nylon bolts to hold the guides while grinding, similiar to the manner Roger uses his guide holding tool.

I recently had a chance to cast several matching rods both with and without the new microwave guide system. I could tell the difference in casting distance and control right away. I do not think you will be disappointed.
