If you go for a Batson spey blank they have guide placement/sizing charts for their rods under the technical forum link at the top of their website . That'll work as a good starting point, tape them on and do a static deflection test and adjust. I've only built their switch rod blanks so not much other advice for the spey rods.... The switch rods are a great bargain.

Hey Phil, in the year I was there I never had much chance to do any fishing. There are some beautiful rivers to be found both in RC East and South, but accessibility is an issue. I was stationed in Baghram, Kandahar, and Salerno for a bit and as far as I know there weren't any spots on any of the basecamps. I'm sure there are some remote camps with easier access but they're likely in less stable

Hey Scott, let me know when your copy gets in. I'll take the next C-130 flight down from Bagram (I unfortunately let my subscription expire during deployment). I'll bring a whip antenna, some 550 cord, and St Paulie Girl N/A and we can fish KAF pond while dodging rockets. Send me an email, we'll start up a two man rodbuilding club over here and before you know it we'll have the Taliban lining up

Thanks for the replies gents. Nothing seemed to work, so eventually I drilled a small hole in the screw head and used a center punch to tap it around enough that I could unscrew it. The funny thing is I have a good set of allen wrenches that I shoulda used. I guess I just got overtaken by "new toy at Christmas, gotta play with it now" syndrome. Thanks again for the suggestions.

I should probably post this as a Friday Folly but I need some advise.
Just got in my new 4 jaw chuck from PSI (looks to be a pretty decent tool by the way). It comes with 3 sets of jaws and had on the wrong ones for the project I wanted to work on. Anyhow, I grab the el cheapo 3mm hex driver that came with the chuck and just as I put a decent amount of torque on the very first bolt....snap, th

I'm repairing one of my father's rods, a 7' Berkley spinning rod, that has 3" long foil underwraps at every guide. Was wondering if anyone had a quick way of taking off the foil that seems to have been put on with some form of adhesive. So far I've just been painfully peeling it off leaving smelly glue behind.
Thanks,

I've been planning on building an 8/9 wt for Great Lakes tributary steelhead/salmon fishing ever since I found out the Army was sending me to Fort Drum New York. So far I've come across good deals on Dan Craft's 10ft 8 wt, FT 1008-4, and another sponsor with good deal on a St. Croix 4FT1069(based on the model number I think it's an SCIV). Just wondering if anyone had any experience with either or
