Thanks Ron. I will call on Monday. Thanks for the link Bill, but while there are a lot of single foot wire guides, to my knowledge, no one is producing them in the illusion/holographic color which is why I am having a hard time finding them. However, I have several leads that I think will work out. Thanks everyone. Mike

Mike, I don't see what I am looking for, am I missing something? Maybe I need to be more specific. I am looking for single foot wire guides. I don't think mudhole has any, at least not what I can see. By the way, I am talking about the Pac Bay Illusion color. Some call them holographic. Same thing I believe.

Thanks Josh, it is the metal that I was looking for, and I just looked on @#$%& and only one option and they are too big. Still looking.

I think most people have discontinued the fly holographic guides. Any vendor or individual have a fly set or even individual guides? I can piece together a set if necessary. I am building a 7'7" 3 wt. I need a 4.5 tip top. 9 single foot guides, fairly small 1 small stripper Thanks for any help or leads. Mike mediger@whit&#

Just an update. I ended up choosing a 7'7' Highlander Light from Talon. This is my first experience with them, but I am excited. Thanks for all the suggestions. Mike

Thanks Bill. I have a feeling they might be a bit fast for me since I am really looking for a moderate action blank. I will see what i can find a description of this model. Why don't you send me an email with a price and if you have fished them your impression would be helpful. Mike

Thanks Eric. I have built a Sig V before, so I will check this out. In fact, I wouldn't even need to build another rod if I hadn't lost my older 8'4" 3/4wt which was my favorite rod. Mike

I forgot about the Avid line. Good thought. Don't worry about tangents or highjacking, my brain works on tangents most of the day.

Good point, and I have tried that. Now I may be way over-processing, but you know how obsessive we can be about these things. When I did over-line my TXL with a 4wt line, while it cased fine, I just didn't like the feel of the line both picking it up off the water and laying it down; both ways it just felt too heavy. I felt like I lost some of the lightness, and it just didn't seem to fit. I

Thanks Eugene, I actually have a TXL 3wt and ZXL 4wt, and they are a bit faster than I am looking for. With TXL blanks being discontinued you can get some great deals on them, so I am considering going that route, but again, it just isn't what I am looking for. I have also considered the BIIt, but thought that if I am going to pay that much money, I should get the TMF, which is a true moderate

Looking for a moderate action 4wt fly rod in 7'6" - 8' range. Absolutely love the Anglers Workshop Chalkstream, but they don't carry the 4wt in that length. Have considered the Winston TMF, don't care about name-brand. I want quality, light weight, quicker recovery in moderate action and don't mind paying for it. Just not sure what my other options are. Any favorites that you can sh

Thanks for the replies. I did warm it up a bit and it worked fine. It was my first experience with rod bond and I just didn't expect it to be that solid. But heated it up a bit, used a cooking TBS spoon to measure, and it worked fine. Seems pretty solid today. So all is well. Thanks again. Mike

Greetings, I have a fly rod reel seat in which the butt end has come off. I am repairing this for a buddy and he wants it for this Sunday or Monday. My rod bond is solid (guess I don't use that much) so I am left with thread master epoxy or Elmers household cement. Will thread master hold strong enough, should I use the elmers, or do I tell my buddy to give me a few more days and do it right

I apologize, I should have been more clear. This is for a 3/4wt fly rod, so I need a wire tip top. Not a big fan of the single foot latch hook keepers. Thanks though Mark. If I don't find a regular one I will get in touch with you. Mike

I am having a heck of a time finding these two things as most dealers don't carry them anymore. I have heard that they are being discontinued, but I have one rod that I want to finish with the holos. I have all the guides, just need a tip top and hook keeper. Thanks for any help Mike

I apologiize if I should have been able to find this information, but a search came up with a couple 1000 posts and while I did not even get through half, I still couldn't find exactly what I was looking for, and I didn't see anything in the library. Is there a resource that gives me some guide size recommendations for various length and wt fly rods? I read in my search that some prefer the pro

Thanks John, Sorry for the delay in responding. I am glad to hear that it will make a nice rod. It is very straight and feels nice. I am excited. I can't wait to try it out on a few N. ID cutties. Thanks again for the help. Happy New Year. Mike

Greetings, I hope someone can identify a blank I just purchased from a gentleman who knew nothing about the rods he was selling. I got a blue fly rod blank that has a hand written identification on the blank as CS7734. It is 2pc, and is very light and tapes out a 7'7" so the obvious answer is that it is 7'7", 3/4wt, but I am curious about the CS. Anyone know who might have made thi

Thanks for the offer herb, I appreciate it. I have chrome already, so I will probably order a recoil TT and a ceramic and give them a shot. Thanks for your help. Performance and light weight are what I am going for, so I appreciate your perspective. Mike

Really? Most people I have talked to have said don't use recoil tip top, but they haven't said why. Is the reason many people don't use them just because of the looks?

Thanks guys. I have used recoils on my lighter rods and just couldn't decide if I should do something else for a 5wt. I think I will stick with what I know and like, recoils. with ceramic strippers, and either chrome or ceramic tip top. thanks for you opinions. I appreciate them. Mike

If you were giving advice to someone building a 8'6" 5wt premium fly rod, and he wanted to optimize for light weight and performance would you vote for 1) Titanium frame single foot ceramics from Fuji 2) REC recoil single foot 3) Single foot chrome because a hack like you (the builder) will never know the difference to justify spending the money on premium guides I just feel like i
