My main concern was "ungluing the rod". I didn't need 6 pieces where there was only just one. Thank you gentlemen.

I have successfully stayed away from refinishing bamboo, leaving it instead to the pro bamboo artists. A friend gave me his old bamboo fly rod and said, "do what you wish". I've done searches and couldn't find any answers, Question: Is it possible to take the "set" out of a bamboo rod ? This thing looks like a potato chip. I thought I read somewhere that you could use steam to

3. Surf Guides
I have an 11'8" med- heav. Rogue spinning surf rod that I'm wrapping. I was wondering If someone could tell me how the new Fuji CLCSG surf guides cast ? I'm told that you don't need as many guides as well. Any input on this would be appreciated. THanks

Sanford, I know the show and booth of which you speak. I too went to that booth. I was with a friend that I have built several rods for and he had quite a chuckle over the questions I asked or should I say the answers to the questions I asked. The best part was the "EXOTIC FEATHER INLAYS". They looked like my old grandma's easter hat. Oh by the way , those exotic feathers can bought at

I have used Fly tying tinsel on lots of rods It looks very sharp. Especially the embossed tinsel. The old Herters tinsel looks the best but it's very expensive now. Just a "very small" dab of super glue on the ends and your done. Very classy

Here in the N.East mostly salt stuff. 50% surf spinning, 20% conventional surf & boat rods, 30% fly rods, both salt & freshwater.

Sorry guys, These are all 2 piece rods. Largest breaks down to 5'. I'm beginning to think he got some misinformation. Yes he is trying to fly with them. Should he try to board the plane with them? And should he put them in a tube? Unfortunatley the tube will have to be a 6" pvc. Might look like a bazooka ...LOL

A friend of mine is going to Costa Rica fishing for about a month. He's bringing 4 Surf rods with him and is being told it will cost him $300. to pay to bring them with him. First , is this normal? Second, How do most of you folks that do the Central America trips deal with shipping or carrying your rods with you? These are not inexpensive rods he payed top dollar to have me build them. He wants

I agree with Tom and Billy , seems like a very short butt length. I have several 9' ers with 16" butt lengths . My 12' has a 24" butt length, which balances fine.

I thought I read that someone was coming out with a faster setting epoxy finish. I searched and couldn't find a topic. Was I just dreaming and hoping or is this a fact?

Rubber band around the Blank / grip, Rubber band around the jaws. Turn clockwise. Never fallen out since. But I agree, it needs to be addressed by PacBay.

Ken. I'm certainly no expert on kayak rods, but, I've asked alot of my kayak fishing friends "What would be the the # 1 thing you would look for in a Kayak rod " and most said "a rod that would easily clear the bow of the yak. Another thing to look at. Just my personal experience.

I have fished and lived in New England for more than 50 years. Can someone please tell me why the folks that fish the brine don't use down rigger's as much as the sweet water folks do? (other than the cost of a down rigger) It only makes more sense to me to me to put the chosen bait/ lure down with a down rigger than with wire line. I only ask this because of all the Capt's that ask me to build

I had a "discussion" with a gentleman about how he would never own a 2 piece rod. His reasoning is that a 2pc comes apart at some time of the day, after throwing hundreds of casts, ( he fish's bass tournaments). I've never heard of this happening unless the rod wasn't properly seated in the first place. I've thrown 2-3 oz. for the better part of a day surf casting a 2pc. rod and never h

First rod I did was a rebuild of a rod my two sons caught their first bluefish on at the ages of 5&6. One on the rod the other on the reel. I've got a picture of them working that fish (good stuff). My youngest son has the rod now in Florida. That rod has seen alot of fish, The "boys" are now in their 30's. Great memories.

I just delivered a rod to a single mom for her son as a Christmas present. She's done a great job of raising him, "A" student ,scouts , all around great kid. She doesn't have much money but wanted to get him something special. I built probably one of the best 7' spinners I've ever built. When I gave it to her,her eyes lit up. I told her to turn it over and read the enscription " To

I think ,for me anyway, that it's an expression of yourself. Like anything else that you take pride in , giving a rod that has your own personalized touch to someone that apprieciates the time and effort you put into it is very fullfilling.

For the same reason you said "This is a boat rod that will be getting tossed around a bit." I would use Tall double foot guides, or REC recoil guides.

28. Kayak rod
I have a surf fishing buddy that also fishs from a kayak. I would like to build him a surprise birthday rod he can use while in his kayak. I've never built a rod for kayak fishing but sure would like to, seeing how this kind of fishing is taking off. I would apprieciate any suggestions on sizes to use. Species fished will be stripers & blues primarily. Probably casting, I would think . Thank

Lon, I use the sponge brushes you buy at the craft stores 5-10 cents. They work great because there is always some finish in the brush so the surface goes on very smoothly.

30. Missing link
A gentleman brought me a four piece spinning rod with a totally shattered section in the middle. This being his most favorite rod for bluefish he "needed" it repaired. Repairing the section was totally out of the question it was nothing but a pile of fiberglass splinters. My questiion: How do you duplicate the action of the "missing" section not knowing how the rod reacted be
