I've just read it. I've never done it that way. I've always put the guides where I think they will go and then put the pressure on and see which way they need to go. The only problem I ever have is underestimating and not putting enough pressure on and the first guide from the reel is some times a little too far.

Are you putting more pressure on the blank than it is rated for? 10 or 11 does seem like a lot of guides on a 7' casting rod. I usually do 8 or maybe 9 on 7'.

Some do go side to side and some disengage and stay put. Even the ones that go side to side in my experience never match up to the line coming off the reel. And I have spectra on nearly everything now so the spool diameter shrinks much less than even a wide reel with mono. The distance factor is just my opinion and I'm sure will be different for each set up and operator. The level wind issues

I would say a narrow spool has the advantage and especially on a level wind. You can hear the line being ripped across the spool when it has to come out of a tiny whole on the level wind. I think every inch the line goes back and forth it takes a small distance out of your cast. Maybe not much but, some.

1. Some say it's important some say not. I do cause it only takes a second. It might be harder on a 4pc blank. I don't have a special tool or any thing. Put the butt end on something soft enough to not scratch like linolium. Tip section against your index finger. Push in the middle with your other index finger and roll it around. If it's not obvious don't worry about that section. 2. China Mar

It's been my experience that you get a little extra movement in the thread while they are wet out with CP. If your using CP, thats the time to do it.

The first guide would be about 18-19" from where the reel would sit on the reel seat. The break is at 22" from the bottom. Does that seem close to you?

Most everyone fishes differently. For me I almost always get a blank and fish up near the heaviest line the blank is rated for. Like a 12-25lb rating to me means 20-25lb. If I want to fish 12lb I will order a blank that is like 8-15 lb. A 20-50lb to me means 40-50lb. I would never fish 20lb line on a blank rated up to 50lb. Different regions have different styles.

Couldn't he of just put finish on the wraps he is happy with and who cares about the wraps he's not happy with?

Where I want to put my first guide will only allow the rod to collapse about 8-10". If you now what a telescoping butt looks like, that should make sense. I don't have the rod in front of me right now but the break is approx. 24 inches up the rod. I think they just took about a 7 and a half footer and chopped about three inches out of the lower mid section and just sleeved the tip section i

I thought I read they were mainly designed for the bass guys wanting to fit a 7+' rod in the boat's rod compartments that are usually 6'6" range. The rod I have is 6'9" and it will collapse to about 6' where I want my first guide.

I guess sending an epoxy slathered cork plug or like you said rubber plug up the butt would be the cleanest way. I haven't started the rod yet, it's about 4th or 8th down the list. I just keep wondering. Thanks. I guess it's time to start shopping for cork plugs. Anybody have a recommendation for which wine has the best plugs?

I purchased a telescoping blank. The issue is i've never built, fished or even seen one completed. Thinking about it I don't even have a reason to leave it telescoping. But I probably will. When collapsing the blank, the butt section overlaps about 3-4" past where my first guide would go. So I am wondering what type of wrap is used to stop the butt section from going up onto the guide w

There you have it. I think I have it figured out, you guys must have somehow(?????) developed extra forearm muscles so you don't have to pull strait up on the foregrip. I do sometimes put the rod in there but anything that pulls hard goes right to the mid section (undeveloped forearms).

I was going to say something along those lines but, if that's what the guy wants. Anything over about 20-25lb test in the arm pit you must be strong.

When you cook the cabezone and the blue you will notice a huge difference in the texture of the meat. The texture of a black will be a lot closer to the texture of the cabezone.

I don't build too many rods for other people but, that seems like a lot of butt grip on such a heavy rod(up to 40lb) and a short fore grip. For myself I would do like 10" and 9" or 10 and 8 or something like that. You have reach 17 or so inches out over the 40lb reel then it seems you have to bend you wrist to fit a short grip. Unless the guy is tall and strong and that's what feels rig

The difference between a blue and a black's mouth is almost the exact same difference between a large and small mouth bass. The mouth is not extending past the eye. It's a blue. Go here for identification. Either way pretty good from shore.

That is a nice fish, however if you look closely I believe it's a blue. It's got a small mouth and a sharp anal fin. Somewhere in the monterey bay?

Those look really nice. I'm not home so I don't have rods to measure. How high to you have to go for the 3/8" size to fit a seeker 196 or 270? Can you fit something bigger than 3/8" in the clip like a 865H without going really high? I'm flying down that way(Glendale) tomorrow but my schedule was just filled so no time to stop by. Thanks, Kevin

I have a Pac Bay Wrapper with the standard chuck. The chuck lost one of the self centering fingers. These and the all black approx. 1 1/4" X 3/8" pieces with a thin piece of metal and a rubber pad. So I called pac bay and they said I need to order the whole chuck, which I already did and have. However, I still have a chuck that I would like to use for drying or whatever missing a fing
