Stainless gets its corrosion resistance from a film of chromium oxide that forms on the surface when the chromium in the microstructure is exposed to the oxygen. Remove the oxygen from the surface by coating it in epoxy and you’ve removed the materials natural ability to regenerate its protective coating. To make matters worst, we grind the feet bringing Fe to the surface negating the effects

Here's an easy way to remove green saltwater corrosion on chrome and other metal parts
1. Remove the metal parts that need cleaning.
2. Fill an old glass or plastic bowl with White Vinegar. The bottom of a cutoff two-quart milk jug will do nicely. DO NOT use a metal container.
3. Immerse the parts into the bowl, making sure that the vinegar covers the parts completely.
4. Add 1 teasp

The Rainshadow SU1418F is the Striper chunkin rod for NJ, DE and MD beaches. If you wat something a little heavier, try to find some old stock Rainshadow SU1502 blanks.
I use Fuji NSG on all my personal rods.

For Drum, the Rainshadow 1509 and the Lami 1502 are the work horses. I like using a Lami 1221MH for fishing the Point where distance isn't the primary concern. The 1362MH is a nice "tweener" rod but it ends up being left on in the rack more and more as I get older. The 1502 is lighter and easier to cast.
Hint, for the price the Mudhole LSB1502MH is very tuff to beat ;)

I fish on a mid-Atlantic surf fishing team. Everyone on the 6 man team fishes the Batson SU1418F. Small Kings and Blues typically dominate these tournaments, but you can’t fish too light because big Reds and Stripers also roam the area. You will have no problems feeling even the lightest bites using a 1418 with braided line.

I suggest you find out what reel he is going to use on this rod and size accordingly. It would make no sense at all to mount a 3XXX or 4XXX series spinning reel on a #20-50 blank.
Having fished for Black Drum in the Bay for the past 35 some odd years, I would question the recommendation for a 7’ rod given the close quarters that often accompanies this type of fishing. Playing Bumper boats wh

EUCOSIL from Euclid chemical is the best I've used. We used on the floors in the machine shop. It is oil and chemical resistant. I coated our garage floor 20 years ago and the stuff is still working it's magic. The stuff is expensive but it works.

You don't need anything special. Any good moderate to moderate-fast, #20-25 glass blank would suffice. I would go 5'-6" to 5'-9" depending on the person. A blank with good backbone is the key to hoist them up off the bottom. Since there is no casting involved I'd focus on a low weight, good backbone blank.
I have a set of Lamiglass BRT20 that I built conventional for Drum and Co

The problem you're going to run into is that each angler casts differently. Recommending a blank to someone w/o knowing their skill level or watching them cast a couple of times is tough. A “light†caster might think that blank X casts 5 oz just fine while a heavy handed caster might snap the blank throwing the same weight.
Barry brings up the perfect example. The Baton 1418 is a great

I’m not a fan of St Croix surf blanks but if was in your shoes and wanted a St. Croix blank, I would go with the 2SRS106H2. My preference in that weigh class is a 11’-6†blank but it’s just about the only blank I see that would throw the weigh.

For fishng the beaches of Va and Carolina you need two rods. One to throwing 3-5 oz + bait and one to throw 8-10oz. plus bait.
The Lami GSB1502MH and the Rainshadow SU1418F are both very popular blanks in the area.

I build quite a few stand-up trolling rods on IGFA #20 and #30 blanks. The #20 and #30 blanks are typically 62.5†and I extend them to 6'. I like to build the butts up from scratch but a lot of guys go for the Stuart Tuff-butts.
I really don't see the benefit of using titanium guides on a trolling rod. I use Fuji hardloy turbos on all my personal trolling rods and they hold up very well over

I built two 1418 Alstars for personal use and tried using 12 rings on a conventional setup. Couldn't stand the sound of the knot going thru the guides. Amazed they didn't hang up on me. Brought the rods home after the first trip and changed them out for 16 rings. No more 12 rings on surf rods for me.

I had a customer bring in a trolling rod with a loose reel seat. I tore the butt off to make the repair and found that the blank had been cored from the gimbal up to the reel seat with a solid fiberglass rod. I've never seen this before. I this common place? Really needed in a #30 rod?

I built the rods specifically to fish "The Point" at Cape Hatteras where it’s common to stand waist deep in water while casting and distance isn't my primary goal.

Ok, finally went out to get one of the rods.
I used NSG guides with a hardloy tip
25-20-20-20 with BPLT 20s-18 tip
Guide spacing from tip of blank 8"-21"-38"-59.5"
FPS-D22 reel seat = 29"

It's too late tonight to run out to the garage, but I have two GSB1221MH. I'll get you the guide setup in the morning.
I use Abu 7500CT3 on one and an Abu 7500C3CT on the other. Don't use either rod much anymore. I find myself grabbing the GSB1502MH more often than not.
Unless you needed something that short for a particular reason, another option for "storm" chunking would be t

My favorite 10 ft. bait & 8 blank is the Lami 1221MH. It will throw 8-10 with the best of them. I built mine specifcally to fish The Point.
Lami rates the rod to 16 oz. but thats bit optimistic to say the least.

I do a lot of light tackle jigging for Stripers and Red Drum. Regularly tangle with fish #5-20 using #8-17, med heavy, bass blanks. When setting up a rod for this application, I put the butt at my elbow then locate the reel seat accordingly. I use a split grip on these rods, personal preference. The long handle takes the load off the wrist while providing the leverage you need to fight fish this

Match your braid diameter to your mono and load the line while wet. Most people make the mistake of matching line weights which causes nothing but problems.

Assuming you fit the parts up when it was 70 degrees F°, you are talking a differential of + 0.0003†to -0.0007†in the brass and move the decimal point one place to the left for graphite.
To cause problems you would have been using press fits when you assembled the rod. I would side with Tom and his elongation theory. An under warp would help

No reason. I had a couple of BMNAT tops laying around from a prior project. Stuck one on the rod for testing and just left it there.

I have two 1502 that I use Red Drum fishing. The first one I built using the Lamiglas recipe. The build was Ok, but the tip was a little light for my liking. The second rod I took 3" off the tip and worked with the guides a bit. I like the second one much better. Loads well with 6 oz., sweet spot at 8 oz., throws 10 oz. w/o a problem.
Reel - Abut 7500CT
Cut 3" off the tip.

I use the same fine tooth saw I cut blanks with. Slide the seat on a wood arbor and chuck it in the lathe. Use high speed and touch the saw blade to the seat. Makes a nice, perfectly straight cut everytime
