22.1oz lexa 400/rckjb700-250 vs 16.5oz tranx 400/sws70mh reel and blank weight with a 25 yard loss of line capacity on the tranx also more compact setup. Already have a 6k saragosa setup also.

I've had a few tear over the years but they are awsome, very comfortable and the main reason I use them over fighting butts is to lock in the boats rod holders otherwise they want to spin and bounce around.

I have a few RCKJB blanks and I'm happy with them but I'm interested in something with just a little faster acton maybe just the first 2/3 or 1/2 of the rod versus all of the rod in a RCKJB . Would the sws70mh fit that bill? I have a RCKJB 700-250 with an lexa 400 that I use as a multi purpose rod offshore but on our shorter trips that only involve cobia and snapper I don't need the extra wei

Will be building a 6'6" all around casting rod for offshore with a Daiwa lexa 400 going on it. Will fish anywhere from 10-20lbs of drag. Wanting to spiral wrap, should I use the lite or the heavy virtus guides. Will be my first heavy spiral what size stripper and transition guides should I look at I'll be using size 10 running guides. Planning on building on a Batson RCKJB606-150 I

Went and made the last test cast with a 1 oz and it just zings it with almost no effort I'm very excited to get it out in the open and really put some power into it and see what it can do. I suspect this would be a excellent rod for throwing lures in the surf also.

Well I added one more size 8 into the equation and made it happen! Now there is one thing I was overlooking I was flexing the rod to an extreme that I normally wouldn't do because in a situation with drag being pulled straight down I always bow down to the fish and the line has no clearance issues at all in that situation which is a more realistic situation compared to how I tested the blank. Well guys I got my Swampland Tackle blank in and let me tell you it is an awsome blank. I cut it down to 7'4" put a eva fighting but on it with a total length 13" cork handle. With a 5" forgrip and I love the way the rod feels and the power that it has. Plus as promised it cast like a dream i have only made just a few cast with it and it launches everything I have tried so far.

Thanks for the kind words Mr. Bill but the same goes for you and Lance yall are some of the most helpfull people I have had the pleasure to have dealings with. Things have changed a little though the guides I oredered are on backorder so I'm going to step up to the titainium virtus and shave a few more ounces. I will still start with a 12,10,8,8,8,8,8,8. I hope to get the grips on the rod

Well I ordered virtus lights for my rod I got 12,10,10,8,8,8,8,8 in black stainless I'm having second thoughts now that I my have went with to heavy of guides going with the virtus. I'm happy with the ring sizes because I will be using a short top shot of 50 or 40lb mono uni to uni to the 40lb braid main line. What do y'all think?

Talked to Swampland and I am very very excited about the T1 blank sounds like exactly what I want. Plus I like the fact that being just about 150 mile down the coast from me he knows exactly what kind of fishing I will be doing with it and he said it would work great and even mentioned other things that I was thinking of using it for so we were definetly on the same train of thought. I know a flipping stick won't work for sure, way wrong action. I like west coast jig blanks but not for my curado 300 way to big and heavy. I need something small and light and capable of handling a 40lb fish, casting is important but when I'm trying lift a ling off the bottom thats 40lb I need a rod with some backbone to it also. Thats why I have been thinking about the musky blanks because t

I forgot who I talked to but they made short work of my problem. I have a new one in the mail and prepaid return papers coming with it. I have never built on a Rainshadow yet or used one but I can tell they are nice blanks and there is no doubt they will still be one of my go to companies for blanks. It's hard to beat the same quality for half the price of other brands and they have a massive

OK, guys I just got in a Rainshadow RX8+S822.5 its a 1/8-1/2 oz rod and it has about a 1/4" crook in it a from the tip to the taper which is about the first 18" of blank when I spin it on my turner it makes about a 1/2" circle. I was thinking no big deal I'll just put the crook up and everything will be ok well this rod has a very prominent spine which will shows it's self on each

I think that a roller is necessary as a tip top because it will allow the line to transition under that great of a load much easier the rest should be good SIC I have a stand up rod that is about the size your talking and I'm running a roller on top and just regular hardaloy turbos the rest of the way with a 12/0 mounted on it, on the beach for shark and it works great. Compared to my other sta

Well guys I fixed the problem I'm going to just get the RX8+ blank thats like the one I was thinking and it has a butt size big enough for the grip. Only going to make things better since it is even a more sensitive blank just like $35 more. However I don't like the ideas of using tape as arbors for anything. I know that the reel seat I'm looking at already has a built in arbor system if it

If the gap will need to be filled what about putting a layer of epoxy on the blank and then sanding it down to .400 and then rod bonding to the epoxy I can't see where putting tape or any other kind of filler is better than epoxy let me know what yall think. What is the recommended clearance between a blank and grip when they are being fitted together? thanks for the quick answer Phil.

Guys I am looking at a Rainshadow RX8 XSB822.5-TC for my dad he wants something very sensitive so I hope that will do it but here is the question, it has a .392 butt and the cork grip that he wants has a .415 I.D. whats yalls take on that ? Will I have to much slack on the top end of the grip or will the Rod bond be able to take up that much slack I don't have the blank yet but I can't imagine

Any way whats yall's thoughts on blanks that are equivalent to his. They call it a 84 Million modulus hybrid because its suppose to have titanium strips

Guys I'm looking for rear cork grips like the ones that are on the avid series from St. Croix they fit a standard 1" real seat but they are 1.25" O.D. and then in about 3" tapper down to a standard diameter. Basically a hump grip for lack of better terms some of Bass Pro Shops rods have something similar. I was wonder where I can find the grips? In the 9-10" length range.

Thanks Tom nice to have a response so fast and be from you. So running the 16,12, and seven 10's should work ok? I like the spiral but I've already got three guides wrapped and for a new guy hand turning its not something I want to redo if possible.

Ok guys first off thinks for the help. I started my first wrap job this weekend I'm rebuilding an uglystick 6'6" boat road 15-40lb I have a couple of questions about guides and thier placement. I'm using the Virtus Lite Saltwater Casting Guides and when I ordered I didn't realize that they were such lowprofile if figured being suggested for 20-40 that they would have some standoff to the w

I already have one with the orange and yellow on it that I had build so I know that I like the collors and I have done some sketches with colored pencils to come up with a pattern. I plan on under wrapping the whole wrap with red since it will be the center color and the last color on the outer ends of the wrap. I wonder if I may need to mask of where I intend on the wraps to be and paint it wh

Ok guys I've finally started to get the stuff together to build my first rod and I have a question on the layout of my thead which color I should use as a underwrap because I know that the under wrap can affect the colors that are wrapped over it. So here is what I want to do. Will be using turbo guides so I'll have some space in the middle for some thread, want to start in the middle with a sm
