11. Re: Brake pads?
i think hes talking about the cast control brakes. in which case i think you want them clean and dry. if talking about the drag, yes it depends on the material of the drag discs.

im thinkin that lumiseal is similar to permagloss, right? i posted a pic on the misc board of a handle with pg on the foregrip and raw cork on the rear grip. only pic i have of it, but it may help some. it is very shiny, and easy to clean. i don't care for the look, but suprisingly to me, it wasn't slippery when wet.

having tried to use the search feature to answere this, i was unable to find what i was looking for. can someone explain to me the exact purpose of these annoying things. while on the surface it would seem they make the rod that much tighter and custom fit etc. but if the reel seat is secured to the blank with a foam arbor or ridges(ala the acs) and the cork is secured to the blank while butted u

well if you're set on continuing this madness( just kidding), here is my tip. on the micro, especially size 3, the center stick of a q-tip is perfect for taping behind it to keep it from moving. random thoughts that may help. isopropyl alcohol on a paper towel removes epoxy after installing grips and seats. forhan locks for single foots are greatness. all i have for now. have fun with it and cat

what i would do(what i did, i was new not too long ago) is strip some old rods down and redo them. that will give you a basis to know what questions to ask. there are too many variables to just ask for tips or tricks. once you put the rubber to the road, you will be able to ask for solutions to all kinds of problems you didn't know existed. everybody has a first rod, but everybody cringes when t

i have an imu 876 that is spiral wrapped that performs well for light bottom fishing and butterfly jigging. it shines though live baiting or throwing large topwaters for king mackeral and cobia when they are higher in the water column. i personally think its too light for bottom fish over 12 or 15 lbs. when you can get them on top further from structure, it is a nice rod to fish with.

wow good ones guys, keep em coming and i'll write them all down and include them with the rod, but if anyone actually has the answers, they get on top of the list. the eva rings are just little black half round rings, they cant' be as hard to find as i seem to be making it, cause like i said, i have some. just need some more. they are my poor man's(or poorly talented mans) epoxy ramp. snug them

hello all, two quick questions to the collective intelligence. i need to build a texas am aggie rod for a friend and wondered if anyone knew offhand the best maroon color? and does anyone know where on the sites to the left i can find those 1/2 in. half round eva rings? i know i have gotten them before, but after navigating around for the last hour, i can't for the life of me find them. i am sure

thanks for all the replies guys. i fish the texas coast inshore for trout, reds, and specks. i have been using a 3 or four foot flouro leader. i just finished a rod with the 3 micros and of course the knots won't pass. i'm going to exp. next week with a shorter leader, and no leader on that rod. i was basically just trying to decide if i could get away with ordering 5's for my next one or if i ne

hello all, i will start out by saying i am being a little lazy, but i figure someone on here has already done this and can save me some time and shipping. i fish alot 30 lb. power pro and a 20 lb. mono leader. i know that size 7 guides will pass the connection easily. i learned today while test casting a new build that size 3's will not.(or knot). i tie a uni to uni, or a worm knot, both of whic

i had the same problem with trying to cut off the cable ties and jarring the rod. my solution which i think i learned here is to cut the tie halfway thru before putting it on the rod. them i use a side cutting pair of cuticle nippers from wal mart to cut them off.

i've seen a tutorial on powdercoating guides somewhere on the net but it was dealing with large turbo style guides. and while it seemed like a lot of work removing the rings and gluing them back in , the looks were striking. i would have to think that the small guides on a crappie rod would not lend themselves to this technique very well.

i feather mine with the sharpest edge of my plastic burnishing tool. it seems to work pretty well too. i was confused about cutting the taper until i saw a picture. then i realized that the ends of the threads are still cut with your cutters straight up and down, the taper is achieved by cuttting on an angle right to left. so that some are shorter and some longer ,then the square cut ends are fe

sounds like you got it answered well, and your right it's personal preference. to sum it up on mine, anything with a levelwind gets turned to the right to protect the guides when the rods laying on the dock. anything without levelwind goes left because my left hand is laying the line on the reel.

at this point ( 4 or 5 rods) i have never had permagloss run any colors on nylon. the light build epoxies, while thinner than high build, are not close at all to the thinness of fresh permagloss.
