Hey guys,
Im looking to build a rod for shad fishing. They are hickory shad that we are after. For those of you who dont know what im talkin about they are 3 to 5 pound fish and about 15 to 24 inches long. We catch them in fast moving waters and its not uncommon to catch over 50 a day.

If i do 2 layers of thread on the guides do i have to put color preserve on the first layer? Or just the second?

I got this with a kit and it doesnt have any color preserve with the kit so im not sure if the thread is NCP or not.

Hey guys, I was gonna get some flex coat finish and i see there are 2 kinds. High Build and Lite build. which one do i need? i will just be building lighter spinning rods. From 5.5 - 7 foot ul - mh rods. So what finish will i need.

Ok well i have been searching around on here all day pretty much and i have learn alot but im am still confused as anything on what to get. lol

What would you get? Please tell me what you would get and keep it at a cheaper cost since i found out that you really dont need to spend alot of money in dryers and wrappers.

WOW that sonds great!!! Ill have to keep looking around on this site too look at some homemade things then ill buy a kit and get started. Right now im just gonna take one of my broken rods and cut the eyes off and try to put them back on with some thicker thread we have at the house. Just to kinda get the feel for it.

Thanks for that info. So really i dont need much at all. I can just get a cheaper hand wraper and a rod kit and that should work for my first?
I ahve been lookin and i am starting to learn stuff.
also what is a jet? lathe? and what do they do?

Hey guys this is my first post here and also this is my first try at getting into rodbuilding.
Now even though i have never done a full rod i have fixed broken eyes and stuff. I also tie all of my own flys for fishing and i am quite good at making them. So i figured if i am gonna tie my own flys i should start making my own rods too.
Now i plan on getting in to this seriously and want to buy
