Bill,
By the FC video I saw their bushings cover almost all the reel seat. The graphite bushings are sold in smaller versions (length).
How do you use it? Connected or spaced? Wich space size?
Thanks!

Hi Friends,
I got from a local company some PU foam plate - the guy pointed it's the same people use in the surf boards.
Pushing it with my thumb I see it's not rock solid (anyway masking tape is not rigid at all !) and I would like to try it instead the classic masking tape bushings.
As it's not that easy to rebuilid a reel seat gluing process I would like to ask you:

Jim,
I did some testing with both regular poliester base car paints (metallic) and PU clear coat on very flexible scrap rods and didn't see reason to use flex additive. After severe "flexing stress testing" the painting looks perfect no waves, no cracking.
Could you help me to understand why?

Dear Friends,
I'm doing a repair job for a friend in a brand new rod with a nice wrapping job. As I will need to rewrap 2 guides plus tip top I would like to ask you:
Could you help me to identify the brownish metallic thread on this rod?
Gudebrod 9008 maybe?
Thanks in advance!

Sorry guys but this question isn't related to rod building but I'm tired to ask and research without good results.
I'm looking for way to improove my fly rod popper paiting and finish. I have some "Perfect Popper" and "Betts" fly rod
poppers we imported from USA - they don't use a clear coat: the paint is beatifull and strong enough.
Any idea what paint is it?

16. Help on decision
I was asked from a friend to fix a 6' 6" Eglass casting rod smashed 10 inches from the tip. To do it I need to remove the tip top plus 2 single foot in roder to sleeve it. I tried to remove the tip top in all ways desribed in this forum: lighter, steam, heat and wire pulling, faith, etc and no way.
This is a very expensive japanese rod so the tip top: Fuji Titanium Sic. I can cut the blank

Greg,
I don't how size is oversize for you but as flyfisherman I did some guides modifications on comercial fly rods: the stripping guides to bigger ones and the tip top the same way. Believe me: the casting is totally different!

I have some rods with black vinyl or rubber (?!) winding checks cracked after some fishing seasons. One option to avoid it is cover it with epoxy but I don't like the final aspect.
Is it possible to avoid such cracks? What do you do to avoid it?

Dear Friends,
I just assembled a lathe drill "machine" with focus in shape/restore cork and EVA grips. The kit is based on a brand new hand drill rock solid fixed in a wood support and a wood tailstock with a small bearing support for the shaft.
The thing is quite rigid and during the initial testing showed strong enough. As everybody knows there is some play in those hand drill mac

Herb,
Unfortunatelly will be impossible - the rod is not new and I can't identify the manuf.
James,
The convertion method is quite interesting! I never though about that. I will need to give it a try in the future.
Thanks everybody for the help.

Roger,
This aproach looks good I can give a try. The only thing is that this way the gluing process (inside part) looks hard to acomplish.

Ok, Tom that was the original idea: remove both stripping guides in order to fit the original trimmed butt section inside the new graphite section.
Please let me ask you personally in case you have both option: Which one looks better for you?(rod action, finish, labor, etc)

Friends,
I have a #8 9' graphite medium/fast fly rod broken just in front the grip end (hook keeper area).
I removed all the cork from the grip and checked: from the broken area to the butt of the rod there is few or nothing flex on that zone.
I figure out two ways to fix it and I would like you opinion (new aproach welcome) for the best one:
1. Use the figure 4 aproach from the Ralph O'Q

Hi Herb,
Could you describe the method? I din't get it.
As a machinist I understand Tom's method but my home "lathe" (drill setup) doesn't has all those requirements!!! LOL

29. butt cap sanding
Friends,
I saw some custom rods with EVA or any material in the butt cap (split grip or regular) that I'm almost sure that both handle and butt cap piece were sanded together base on the joint.
I was wondering: how can we do "lathe" this part together with a blind hole on it? Ideas? Any trick?
