The longer float rods are not needed for larger rivers but the speed for picking up line off the water- insuring a good hook set and fewer lost fish regardless of size of the river.I fish a few rivers in Western NY and my preference is nothing shorter than 11'6". My rod is Loomis ST1384IMX. The best float rod I have ever come across. The IMX graphite makes it a very light rod, easy to fish a

I just looked at the REC site, unless I'm blind , I saw seats with the metal cut away but that was for the wood barrel to show through. Mark, help me, what model # of the exposed blank reel seat? Thanks.

5. Re: Tip Tops
Make sure your tip is a bit over sized. You need room for the epoxy. Not too much play , just a little wobble. You don't want a tight fit.Scuff the tip section with Scotch brite or fine sand paper. I always use 5 min. epoxy and never had a problem with it holding. If you're using the glue sticks, in my experience they don't hold any where near as well as 5min. epoxy, especially in warm weather.

6. Re: Loomis
Shimano has ownly invested in Loomis. I was led to believe that Shimano did buy Loomis. However, this past spring while in FL, a Loomis pro staffer told me it was merely an investment.

The web site is only a starting point. Use static deflection and test casting to determine ideal spacing. The first stripper guide will determine how all the other guides fall into place.

That seat should come with a cork ring inletted to fit the hood. Check out Struble's web site to verify.

The picture isn't really all that clear. It has to be one of two things: 1) swelled butt built up in 5 min. epoxy amd then sanded to get it smooth and even or 2) the cork handle is sanded to a taper . Then the cork is inletted to make the thread even with the cork.

I had a similar dilemma on a weave from a guy who wanted the Loomis skeleton fish on his rod. I contacted Loomis and they told me that it would be OK as long as I wasn't selling the item solely based on that logo and I wasn't profiting from it. In essence what he said was that it would be all right on
a rod as a weave and that it was part of the package, i.e. butt wrap, guides and handle. Be

I must be fortunate or lucky- I don't know which. I 've been using Madeira Polyneon 40 wt. for some time now. I use it for guide wraps, butt wraps and weaves. I've never had it fuzz on me. The colors are beautiful- they sparkle. I use 2 coats of 811 and never had blotches. I will say this though, it's got a little more stretch to it. So you had better use a little more tension and pack good. It p

I use these all the time . You have to move the blank up the reel seat about 3/4" to accomodate the fightng butt. Yes, unfortunately you do gain an 1 1/2". You just load up the reel seat end with epoxy. REC also has that same fighting butt in a removable one. This would solve your problem regarding loosing some room in your rod tube. I wouldn't cut off some of the butt end of the blank.

I'll be fishing for Reds, Snook, Sea Trout and small Tarpon. I'll be fishing the E. coast of FL. The Reds can go any where from 5-30 lbs. I go there every spring and I'm about to make it my permanent home. The Tarpon can be 30-40 lbs and that's why I was thinking of a 9 wt. For right now I'm trying to do that with one rod.

I've been going over all the manufactures specs on their salt fly rods and I can't decide. Please help! I need a rod to cast flies a 100', be able to cast smaller to large flies, be durable and be of very high quality. Am I dreaming? I've looked at Gatti FT's but hear you've got to treat them delicately- any truth to that? I've looked at Dan Craft FT's but they only offer a 4pc. Any body have an

16. Pac Bay guides
For years now all I've ever used is Fuji guides. However, their silver guides with the gold rings have really caught my eye. They do look beautiful. Has any one tried these or any of Pac Bays guides? I'm curious about weight, durability of finish and strength i.e. are they going to last. I'd be interested if any one has tried their single foot ceramic fly guides also. Their ring materials are a

17. Broken rod redo
I just received a broken rod from a customer- the dreaded car door did it again. It broke 3-4ins down from the tip of the butt. I've shipped it back to Loomis. My question is what should I charge if any thing. The sad part is the butt had a name weave, a fish weave and a butt wrap. I was just curious what the consensus of all your opinions would be on this. Thanks to all that reply!
