This was an interesting project, due to the combination of parts I've used...

The blank begins from the reel seat. The grip part is a graphite extension, that seems to hold up very well. The reel seat is painted at an auto shop. A nice combination between the old and the new.

I'll probably have 2 mold a few more zander(walleye) heads for future inserts. The carving of these is killing me:)

The but cap is hand carved, but still needs some inside color, and epoxy to cover the carved head for a glass like effect. P.S. This is the first grip i ever made, but still waiting for the reel seat and top guide:(

Thx guys! I still think cork arbors are not a good enough arbors for a 800$ rod... considering their elasticity, and their poorer sensitivity transmission than any other material used for arbors (tape, graphite, poly foam)... I would much prefere the tape over cork in any of my rods:)...

I've never used cork as an arbor, and thought to ask... I don't think I'll use in the future either, but I still feel it's somehow disappointing at a rod as such to use cork for arbors, instead of graphite/metal or other higher end materials, especially considering the price tag:). Thx for the replies!

Hello guys, I just came over an astonishing discovery, when a rodbuilder friend of mine had to change the reelseat on an Evergreen Temujin.... It has cork arbors... I've never seen this in a rod... i know that they were used sometime, a long time ago, back in the days.... but for a 800$ rod... i think it's overwhelming to find something like this under the hood. What are your opinions on

I want to use it over a decal. I will have a matte carbon split portion between the grips, and want to add my signature decal to that portion (my rod). If possible i would like to have it matte, instead of glossy just over my decal. It would look out of place:). I don't need it over the entire blank:). But considering it'll be a decal over there, i will probably need more than one coat, proba
