I have a project that I've been procrastinating on for about 3 years now. The time has come to start this rod but I've been running into some snags (no pun intended). Merrick Tackle was the the supplier of Andrew's Fishing Products and I just got word today Mudhole will not be selling Andrew's products. Before I contact Matagi in Japan, does anyone have some suggestions?

Ken, To be quite frank I have no idea. I do not fly fish so I know very little about fly line, blanks, etc. I'm just trying to do some R&D for a customer. But I'm sure someone out there can answer that question for you. <>Dave

Any suggestions on a 10' crappie rod blank? It doesn't seem to be a lot of 10' UL-L blanks out there to chose from. Thanks, <>Dave

I only use them on cork to cork/composite cork to composite cork or any combination. I find that they work better than epoxies because (1) they expand as they cure filling in any small voids between cork rings(2) most of them dry a tannish color so joints are virtually invisible (3) I find that they sand easier than epoxies. Here are a few tips: wear gloves or at the very least wash it off your

This is my first time using flex coat lite as a first coat step and it turned cloudy. I use a syringe type for accurate part a and b mixing as well as an automatic epoxy mixer. I have never had this problem in the last 4 years of building fishing rods. Has anyone run into this problem? If so, is it safe to put the flex coat regular over top of the lite? When it fully cures, will it fully cur

I'm restoring an old surf rod (Sea King). The rod has some 1/2" wide gold tape in front and in back of the guide wraps. I would like to duplicate this, so I was wondering: Has anyone been there done that and knows where I could find this tape? Thanks, <>Dave

Jeff, I visit Versitex about twice a month. I know they have a bunch of Shikari blanks that are seconds for $25. These blanks have no blank I.D. and are stack in a few bins. The All Star blanks I've seen have been in the original packaging with original I.D. tags . Personally , I have dealt with Versitex for about a year now and have had no problems. Since I've pick up my orders I can't c

Frank, Look at the lures that you use, if you never use anything more than a 1/4 oz. than go if the G. loomis SJ720. If you throw some heavier lures like 5/16-3/8 oz. I would say go with the St. Croix 3S63MLXF. Both blanks will give you versatility it just depends on the versatility you need. <>Dave

Scott, I was just looking through some of my stuff to try to find one of those guides for you. I'm sorry to say I did not find one for you, but I have some info that might help you. I have a set of those guides on one of my rods. I measured the ID ring size of a #6 ring because I didn't remember being able to purchase a #7 guide. The ring size on the #6 was approximately .205" which is

I've tried it on 2 rods as samples. First, scuffing with scotch brite. Then, Pactra for color. Finally, Perma Gloss as my top coat. I had no problems with Perma Gloss to Pactra but, I had an adhesion problem with Pactra to bare graphite. I would never sell one to my customers. It would be asking for problems. <>Dave
