This is my current work space out here. It also doubles as an office sometimes. This weekend, I will be able to move to the barracks and have more room and the addition of a desk strictly for rod building.

This is my first attempt at an inlay. For the environment I am working in (Dust is part of everyday life in Afghanistan) It didn't come out too bad. I know I didn't do the wrap close enough to the end of the ferrule AND I forgot to trim this feather before I laid it, thus is is just a tad longer than the under wrap. So be honest, setting aside my already known mistakes, how's ot look?

I have sinced fixed this pattern. Note the left eye is not the same as the right one. Also the teeth are spaced apart more to give better definition. Next plan is to put red/yellow/orange combo flames coming off the top of the skull. I am currently testing that pattern.

Hey Justin, How far off is the alignment? How tight did you do your wraps. My preference is to not wrap the guides too tight so it allows me to make minor alignments before the finish goes on, but then again you don't want to wrap them too loose either, its a delecate balance that takes practice. Hey Tom What about putting together all the articles and hosting them for download off this site in the library? I could put together a .PDF of said articles and send it to you for posting. I have the time, since I am pretty much being lazy training my replacement out here the next 15 days and I have the scanner and software to do it all. Best Regards Scott

Hey Matt If you are talking about what to use as the finish coat, Thread Master will work as well as Perma Gloss, LS Supreme or Flex coat its all a matter of preference. I like LS Supreme but I havent tried the thread master which I hear is awesome. Hope that helps Scott

Thanks for all the help guys. I still havent made a decision, I am about 6 weeks out from starting the build so I have time. She definately wants high end so I have looked at the T & T, CTS, Sage and the GattiUSA. Robert I totally agree with you on the out West thing, living in Utah, Sage is the king out there and I prefer a 2 piece unless I am traveling on an air plane also. Hey Mr.

Hey All I need some help selecting a fly rod blank. Here is the situation. I have a lady I work with who wants me to build her brother a top shelf fly rod when I get home next month. Here is what he is currently fishing. Med/Fast Action 8' 6" 6WT He fishes small/medium streams and rivers in Pennsylvania. He would prefer a 2 piece but is ok with a 3 piece rod. I don't know what blank he

I too have never really bought into the weight of a guide argument. The minor weight differences, for fly rods, is so small that even if you were casting for 8 hours straight with 2 rods of different weights you would not be able to tell the difference. And you would tire at the same rate with either rod. But then again what do I know I havent built a rod in over 2 years hahahaha Regards

Hi Paul, I am sorry mate, but I can't help you with the cost or getting one made of these due to my location. I am currently working in Kandahar Afghanistan and I have no way of having my machinist make another one of these up. I really wish I could help. We are currently at a work stop because we are having trouble getting the machine in to cut the 1/2" base. I don't have any drawings or

Nice looking work there Mark. What did you finish it with? Is it an oil or stain? What epoxy did you use and how did the glue line turn out? I couldn't see one in the picture, but this gives me some more idea's to get after when I get home in 88 days Regards Scott Ryan

You are correct MaryLou, weight ratings have nothing to do with the way the rod flexes. It is as Art says Regards Scott

HA!!! I have a very old Mitchell 300 I LOVE this reel. I have beat the living crap out it, tried to purposely destroy it and man this thing just keeps reeling & reel. For heck sakes the bail on it is still true, no warps or bends. To be honest this is the only spinning reel I use and have much newer reels. I can't remember the last time I took it apart. I have 3 of them. One I bought at a swa
