I have built on both, for your app I think the 1418 is a better choice, maybe a tad heavier but a nice slightly slower action that keeps bait on the hook. fwiw that is usually the first rod/ most used rod, out of my rack. considered a "light heaver" by many it is still a very easy rod to cast.

I think your best bet on that setup is... tape on your guide set choice... and head for the yard. I might be wrong , but at your listed weight I think you will have a lot of flex in the tip of that blank

Re: reel choice... you are fishing the wash...you're fishing for whatever hits your line..10# pp is great BUT i'd never go below a 2500 size reel

15. Re: Brake pads?
Lorenzo, I don't want to offend you... but regarding the nature of your questions...you may want to leave the service of your reels to someone more familiar with this practice.

Build that castaway 843 first... you will very happy...traps or cranks...I would not be caught up in the im6 / im7 debate intill I finished the build on the castaway blank

NOTHING better than a rod that catches threshers and big strippers....... but I'd check out the Rogue swimbait blanks.

3" off the tip and Clydes spacing... will build a very happy 1502. my first guide on this blank is on the ferrule wrap unless someone asks different.... again tape the guides and try for yourself. longcast tournament guys do this all the time to settle on a "recipe" that suits them.

Good blank choice for a light/medium heaver, If you are using the typical penn/daiwa/avet reel on this rod you will probably start with a 25 or 20 and end with 16's maybe 12's depending on shock leader knot. Tape the guides on your blank ...put the reelseat on masking tape arbors temporarily....go find yourself a field to tune your setup... and build this rod for Barry. hope you have a ball.
