The slip ring is a sterling silver toe ring. The original was a little too wide for the insert I turned. (okay my insert was too short :))

Atlantic Salmon caught with finished rod. The rod is a Dan Craft 10' 4pc 8wt. It casts great and was very nice for landing this fish.

You can add a macro filter to a lot of digital cameras. They work very well.

I like one coat of true oil. It soaks in and once dry The grip still feels like cork but looks more aged and is sealed somewhat.

Today I received some rod building supplies and to my surprise the reel seat is one that requires a milled insert. By that I mean an insert with a flat channel that the reel foot sits in. Does anyone have a link to some online information about how this is done? I turn my own reel seats, and I do have a router but I don't have much experience with the router and I have no idea how to go about

Ron thanks for the link. I will definately check those out. I'm going to try a 2wt and see how I like it. I will probably overline it as well. Maybe cast a 3 or 4wt double taper line. I don't need to cast for miles, and I kind of like the feel of a rod that is overlined a little.

I fish Brook Trout while wading in a medium sized river. Most of these trout are 15 inches and less but some are in the 20 plus inch range. I've mostly used an 8' 4wt I built a few years ago but I recently sold that rod and I'm thinking of building a 2wt. I'm just wondering how well a 2wt fishes? Most of the 2wt blanks I see are quite short. 7ft and even less. Do they cast fairly well?

Sorry if this info is posted in the FAQ or something but I can't find it. How do I delete old photos from my photopage? When I try I get an error message saying that I do not have permision.

I only had fisheyes once. I realized that it was a result of a fishing trip earlier in the day. I used some silicone paste to clean my fly line and must have gotten some on my hands, rods, etc...

I understand that it must be more durable but it just seems like overkill to me. Is stabilized wood used on other wood sporting equipment? like gunstocks? or is it mostly a fly rod thing...

I made a spinning rod for my wife with a fly reel seat. It is sort of a pewter color finish with blue ends. It looks and works great. No issues with the reel fitting either. I could post a photo or two in the photo section if you want.

I don't know why people stabalize wood for real seats. If the inside is sealed with epoxy, and the outside has a hard finish on it like tru oil.... Seems durable enough to me.

Sounds like I just have to try it and see if wood grips are good for me. I'll post some pics when done.

I'm just wondering if anyone has any problems using wood instead of cork? Does it feel comfortable enough to fish? I'm thinking it would. One thing that I wonder about is when fighting a fish, sometimes the butt flexes a little at the cork area. What would happen when this is wood? I have flame maple, birdseye maple, black walnut, cedar, or birch for wood.

Yes I am very aware of the UPS/FEDEX brokerage charges. I always ask for USPS when I order stuff from th4e States. I think I've ordered from Mr. Snedden before. I just forgot the name of his business. I will call him on Monday. Thanks.

I haven't been building in a while and I'm just wondering if there are any new sponsors that are located in Canada. I noticed RIchards is still there but his website is down. Any others?
