While I read a lot more than I contribute on this board, I'm happy to share how I do it. I usually only buy 1/2" thick cork rings that are 1 1/4" in diameter with a predrilled 1/4" hole in the center. I glue the cork rings in "clamps" made of 1/4" all-thread, fender washers and wing nuts. I use the gulf wax you mention on the section of all-thread that will ho

Yes Tom, Confirmed this to be the case after calling and being told basically, to go back and refer to my order confirmation emails. Searching through back emails not nearly as efficient as looking at past orders for guide sets, reduction trains that work, just as examples. If I had known this was coming I would have downloaded all the past orders in .pdf's and had a contained set to search. N

ODM Frontier X 9'6" 3/4-4oz 2pc 70/30 split is the first and closest thing I found. Maybe check CTS and Century. None of these are inexpensive. MHX has two piece 9' that covers the range your looking for but I didn't find the split specified. Last edit Another of the sponsors to the left, Get Bit has Black Hole Cape Cod 9'2" rated 3/4-3oz with 60/40 split. (at least the f

Everybody has their own idea of what the holy grail of rods for a given purpose is and my input to this thread is completely anecdotal compared to Michael's CCS. Even more useless for the OP's freshwater (I think) application. However with that disclaimer out of the way, if I could only have two rods to fish with here in eastern NC, they would be rods build on these two blanks. Both rods are r

Personally, I am glad this company made their products more accessible to the individual builder through the Rod Builder Warehouse site to the left. If I understand correctly, they used to only supply large factory rod companies. After meeting Rick Hall at last years ICRBE and dealing with Arthur Lin via email through the course of this year, I am really happy with their High Frame titanium spi

Mr. Wilson, I have a similar (or the same) setup as the OP describes and your solution of the dc motor with the variable speed controller is the simplest most concise I've seen. Having read about the benefits of applying thread epoxy at a higher speed, this got my attention as a very worthwhile upgrade. I have a few questions and was wondering whether it would be appropriate to post them here

In the spirit of the OP's post; has anybody used material other than the carbon fiber tube in these seats? Thanks, George

Could it just be that they don't look right, when built on a production rod, like they initially didn't to me? All my rods look "funny" now to me I'll admit, but I would not go back to cone-of-flight now in my sixties for any of those rods regardless of the blank they might be wrapped on. All the old arguments against may come into play: too many guides = too much line contact = reduc

Hello All, I've dabbled in rod building off and on for 40 years, and I haven't posted much here since joining in 2004. I've watched this thread since this morning and while I don't have any technical data to make the case one way or the other, I can say without a doubt that these guides and the reduction train guides that go before them are THE reason I have gone full bore back into rod buildin

It just worked great for me on a black matte finish blank. Decal was from Jimi at Decal Connection and now looks great under two coats of LS Supreme. It looks as if it was hand lettered with no sign of the decal edges or bubbles. I will try to post a picture.

I have some laying around also. I did a search here with the same question about the stuff and the general consensus was that it is not for fishing rods. (hijack on) - I just finished a rod for my wife with LS supreme and now need more - was wondering whether to get more Flex coat high build or the new LS high build; guess I'll be safe and buy both (hijack off) ghmason --------------------
