Jim, I had been looking for the library section and couldnt find it. After reading your post I figured I would give it one last look before I say "Just where the heck is it at". Needless to say I found it. doogghhh. Its kind of like spending 15 minutes searching for my keys and finally looking in my pocket to find them. lol Thanks, I will be sure to check there from now on. Hello all. I have taken the guides off an old rod for a young nephew and I would like to try my hand at wrapping guides. I know this has been covered somewhere but my search just gave me ideas for a fly rod and a surf rod. Its a very inexpensive graphite rod that is 6' long and says Medium action, has a lure weight of 1/8 to 3/8 and a line weight of 4-12lb's. I was thinking that I should just

Thank you Emory, Im not sure who on this forum is affiliated with what brands so if I come across as being harsh on someone, that is deffinately not my intention. All I would like is honest answers and I would like to thank everyone for that. This subject is already a bit over my head but like many begining rod builders, I want to know where my money is going when I start to build a rod. Whi

I have called several places and I felt like I was more of a bother than a customer. I would like to purchase everything I need at one place and hopefully speak to someone who doesnt mind a bunch of beginner questions, I would like to build a rod that re

I am a non boater so I dont really want to be carrying 10 set ups with to events. Right now Im trying to figure what bla

The Matagi website is exactly what I am looking for. Would you recommend ACK or Merrick? By looking at the ACK website it seems if they are part of Merrick because of the online catalog. Im excited to give it a try and I like the fact that ACK uses paypal. That helps with hidding it from the wife. lol Thanks, Grant

I am going to be building a Gloomis rod number MBR843. I would like to add an ECS reel seat with a different hood and nut so I can add a nut that can be covered with hypalon. How do I find the size seat that I need along with the sizes of aluminum checks to make it look like the Emperors choice kit sold by Merrick Tackle, model GKEECSKD1C? I have been looking through all of my catalogs and I

I grew up in a body shop so chemicals were common place. Nothing like sticking my nose in a laquer thinner can right before I say "dad whats this?" Sniff, Sniff. Ohhhh, never mind. I know we are talking about safety here but this is the method I use for removing things from sticker glue to tar to overspray paint. I start with the weekest things first. Water, Water and soap, winde

I do a lot of custom airbrsuhing and painting. I grew up in my fathers body shop so I have a small understanding of the pros and cons of an air compressor. Pancake compressors are neat portable units which are generally used in construction of new homes. Contractors use them because of the portability thats it. If they could have bigger units on site, they would, although they would be a pai

The split grip is strictly for looks and weight savings. If I lost a few grams off the grip area, would I want to move the seat ahead to compensate for the weight loss? How about the question regarding the aluminum winding checks? How do I attach them to EVA, Hypalon, or cork? Do I ream them to fit the blank or build up the blank with a few wraps in order to get it to fit? Thank you agai

I am in the process of finally building a rod for myself. Its going to be a 6' L spinning rod. I would like to build it with a split grip and a skeleton fuji seat. My question is how do I decide on a spot for the seat? I can get a general idea but im wondering if theres an actual tip weight or length in front of the seat I should be shooting for. I have heard there is some personal prefferan

Thanks for the replies. Im only looking for about a 6" extension. I figured an 8" piece would give me a little play room. I also figured the extension would be inserted around an inch or 2. Again, I have never tried this so I appreciate the help from all of you. Steve, I havent glued the bottom half of the reel seat yet but I will deffinately be cutting it before I glue it down

Thanks guys. I have never done this before so I dont really know what I should be looking for. The inside diameter of the rod is about 19/64. The outside diameter is about .405. the bottom 10 inches of the rod is not tapered. It is a constant .405. I need the extension length to be about 8 inches with about a 2 inch taper from slightly smaller than 19/64 to roughly my outer diamater. If

John, I have read on the web that people are using drywall mesh under the seat. Do you believe this is something I could use? What are graphite or brick arbors used for? As far as I can tell the only thing to building a grip is to make sure it gets snug to the blank and holds epoxy and you have got yourself a grip! I think through my hours of reading, lol, I can build a handle. My final
