Wilson fishing tackle are the current manufactures of Snyder rods. Four wrap does refer to the wall thickness however keep in mind there is the original MT "multi taper" series and the newer FSU which might stand for " fast surf ", being larger in diameter a 4 wrap FSU is somewhat equivalent to an 8 wrap MT blank.I'm not sure were to find an Aussie style rod blank in the

I always use the blue masking tape without problems but be aware there are various types of blue tape, the last cheap spool I purchased was a plastic based ,wasn't game to try it on a rod build.

Seven wraps and sixty six inchs, It could be Butterworth,Snyder,Pacific Composites or Excel branded depending on its age but the Wilson specs should be fairly close.

Alcohol will take the gloss off commercially applied polyester powdercoat, it's a much underestimated solvent and best not apply to any painted surface except two pac, these days I use window cleaner and elbow grease.

I would agree total however the bullard twist is a bit different you definitely need CP, mine went totally black with straight epoxy. Regar

Oli Í've been thinking about a similar build using burl cork and anythings possible if you have the patience but I always worry about durability with the KDPS , for the KDPS17 your looking at 22mm ID and 25mm OD, its a tough job to sand your cork to 1.5mm thickness and not have any flaws, nor does it allow for any wear, a bit of carbon tube from Matagi is quick and durable solution. Well done Ross , the price looks very reasonable, I'm sure a lot of those drop shot blanks will move.

He not using an electric reel for deepwater fish is he? just stand there and hit the button. I'm totally serious about this, there have been a few episodes of "Hooked" where Dave Buttfield has dragged up kingies and various reef fish using an electric real, seems to work well enough. Wide of Sydney some people use a bent butt game rod and leave it in the holder,a lot of talk of electr

I have a couple still unbuilt at this stage, they feel like standard fiberglass to me and it's not a bad thing having broken one of my favorite IM6 rods dowrigging at Christmas time.

23mm or 0.9 is spot on for a VSS reel seat however I'd imagine a IPS would taper from 22.2 to 27mm over the cut out ,I guess it might depend on how you measure it as well. Regards Charlie

I received a New Zealand built 30 to 50lb game rod as a gift that's finished this way, it's definitely normal rod wrap epoxy though it looks awful and I wouldn't finish a rod this way myself.

The TLD 25 is a fair size reel, mines mounted on a 30 to 50 lb game rod, maybe have a look at one before you start building ? You can lob out a live bait but they are not really casting reels so no level wind as they were designed as a entry level game reel. Charles

As an occasional rod builder I usually use threadmaster lite as a primer and masking tape which is removed as soon as I wick off any excess epoxy, the only thing to watch is the inside of your wrap near the guide leg can end up a bit thin if you brush horizontally, just fix it up with the final coat. I'm sure I could learn to use a brush but tape allows you to get thefirst coat of finish on quic

I have four rods with the VSS real seat and matching KDPS fore grip, I like them however my main complaint is the preturned rear cork grip is very thin in the waist, maybe it's trying to mimic a split grip? The EVA grip from Matagi is also very thin as well so I went with their straight version which might be old fashioned but a lot less drama if you decide to short it after completion. Reg

I glue everything together before fitting to the blank. The factory rods I've disassembled didn't have the edges glued to the seat and had held up OK so I don't stress out about too much the hardest part is getting everything together without glue oozing out. The black paste epoxy from Mudhole is great as it's similar in colour to the reel seat and eva the excess easily wipes off..

Awhile back I wanted to build the rod blank under a grip just slightly so I threw on a bubbled filled layer of epoxy and just walked way, came back to a perfectly level bubble free layer of finish, its seems a very hard lesson to learn but the less you do the better it seem to turn out.

I always try and control the viscosity directly rather than the temperature and never use heat as once the epoxy cools its going to hold any more bubbles that appear, the first coat is usually a light finish and then follow up with light, medium or high build depending on the temperature.

My choice of guides for that rod would be the Fuji K series however if the customers insists on Lowriders you might check out the Rovex Egi Wrangler rod to get some idea of how to proceed,it seems to have similar specs and guides'it sound like an interesting build,

I would stick with Fedex or UPS, they can ring the customer with the import fee plus their clearance,he hands over his credit card number and is done.Way too may potential complications with the post, tracking can be patchy unless you use EMS and he will have too arrange his own clearance.

It sounds similar to Pubond used by wooden boat builders, it's said to be boil proof , gap filling and moisture curing. I'd would image a bit of water immersion wouldn' t be a problem, been meaning to try some for some cork repair as it expands into gaps as it dries.

I know American surf rods are way different than we do in Australia but my long distance Alvey rod either an FSU5162 or MT8144 where both fourteen footers,my ten foot FSU4120 was fairly useless as a distance casting rod although better with a Penn Spinfisher 750, and yes it had two reel seats. A single BHVLG 40HH followed by normal height BHVLG's is a fairly standard setup.

I noticed an English site for match rods that offers a tritium viral wrapped into the rod tip, your looking at about ten dollars for ten years of glow,it's something I'm considering for my next surf rod. .

I don't know why fuji sell the 30,16,10,8, 7 kits its suited to a 4000 size reel only, for a 2500 go 25,16 or a 1000 size reel you might try 20,12. As the builder there's nothing wrong with using a few extra sizes for appearances, you rod, your choice, I'd personally think a hard core NGC rod with a heap of same size equally spaced running guides looks weird.

Australia a big place, shipping from one side to the other could be the same as from the US, are you able to narrow down his location a bit.
