Roger,
Could you tell me which power supply you would recommend to go with the 7rpm motor offered by sciplus? I'm electrically challenged :-) and am not sure which one would work best? Thanks

Karen,
THANK YOU very much for going to that much effort to help!
Can I order those from Fishsticks? I checked the website but didn't see Madeira threads.
And you can bet I'll be attending your presentation at the upcoming Rod Expo ;-)

I'm getting ready to build a 5wt fly rod using American Tackle's windowed fly seat in TiCh/Black Matrix (AW12T-BG). I plan on using black thread for main wrapping - but would like to also add a small trim wrap.
Would anyone have a suggestion on a thread that would closely match the TiCh color of the fly reel seat?
I plan on using TM CP and TM Lite to finish the wraps.
Thanks in advance

I'm getting ready to use Nu-Skin Rod Armor for the 2nd time. The 1st time I used it was with a kit I picked up at the 2007 Rod Expo and it included 2 sided mylar tape.
This time I've ordered some from Mudhole but theirs doesn't include the mylar tape.
I'll be installing over EVA grips. My question is what should I use this time to "hold" the Armor in place. I did a search and see

I too would like to thank Tom for all the effort he has put into making these shows happen. I'm someone who only builds 4 or 5 rods a year for personal use but I have never found a more enjoyable hobby (yes, I think sometimes I enjoy this more than fishing with those rods). I've learned pretty much everything that I know from either this board, Tom's book, or what I see and hear while at these sh

Thanks for the reply Chase. The model I'm interested in is the AVGC80L in Electric Blue. I would like to see the blank before committing to purchase - so hestiate to order from one of the show vendors ahead of time. But if you have a display blank, I plan on attending early Saturday, so I could drop by your both first . Then if looks as good as I'm hoping, maybe I can get my name on it and pick i

Chase,
Do you think any of the vendors at the show will have some of the 8 foot models available for sale? I'm looking to build a new inshore spinning rod to throw metal plugs/jigs and these blanks look very interesting. Would be nice to pick one up while at the show and save the shipping ;-)

Don't beat your self up too much.
As they say, "been there, done that". I made the same blunder and rod bonded the reel seat onto the 2nd section of a Batson 4 piece 9 foot fly rod I was "rushing" to build. I've since learned to slow down a bit (and double check what I'm doing before it's too permanent). Luckily the great folks at Batson were able to send me another 2nd se

I'm trying to select the guides for a Loomis IMX F964-3 (8 ft/4 wt) blank that I'm getting ready to build. But can't decide whether to go single foot wire or ceramic.
Up until now, I've used traditional wire snake guides (on the 5 fly rods that I've build so far). But after reading some of the discussions here, sounds like I may be able to improve the rod's performance (whether that means grea

I've never attempted making a ramp using 5 minute epoxy. Could you please describe how it's done?

I need some suggestions on the best way to finish off the fore grip where I covered it with Rod Armor (on a stand up rod I'm building). I followed suggestions from Mark at Acid Rod and installation of Rod Armor was VERY easy. The end of Rod Armor at back of grip is hidden neatly between grip and reel seat. But at front of fore grip, the edge of Rod Armor didn't shrink down quite enough to fit und

Mark,
Thanks for the quick answers. Is the alcohol used on the adhesive denatured as well? That's a great tip to know.
The embossing heat tool is like a blow dryer for crafts (http://www.dickblick.com/zz431/07/). Ken Preston mentioned in his "Building Tougher Saltwater Rods" seminar that he uses one on his finish epoxy after applying it (to level it out). I picked up one and seems

While at the recent rod show, I picked up a package of Nu-Skin Rod Armor (w/Mylar Tape). I saw a couple of rods in the Batson booth that used it on their grips and was impressed. I'd like to put it on the EVA foregrips of a couple of offshore trolling rods and the EVA rear grip of a heavy weight spinning rod (blanks that I also picked up at the show). Since I've never used this product before, I'

I understand (and have used) static guide placement on a "conventional" guide setup. But I'm a little confused on exactly how to do it for a bumper guide setup.
Per the Static Guide Placement library article, do I still: "Glue on your tip-top and make sure it is secure. Tie a line to the tip and fasten that to an object, or to a container that allows you to apply any amount of l
