This is a rebuild I did for a friend. I used Navy Blue and Charcoal for the maze. Also used pewter, silver and gold metallics. The guides were done in Navy Blue. It was a rebuild on his Kistler. I am VERY proud of this one!

I have the BEST Husband. Michael did this tartan wrap for me on this 6'6" Fenwick that he bought and stripped all because he dropped my other rod and reel into the water. What a sweet husband I have. I have taken it out and fished w/it (got into some redfish) and boy was it fun. What a lucky girl I am! I think he did a great job!

This one was done in charcoal/royal blue and outlined in navy and silver. Diamonds are done in the same colors. Underwrap is done in blue/silver trimar. I had some help from Doc on this one! Thanx a million Doc! He is the BEST mentor and friend anyone could ask for!

This is a shaded iron cross that I am doing for one of Michael's rods. The cross itself is done in 2 different shades of green. My very first closed wrap!

Basically it is all a matter of personal preference. And what looks good to you. Everyone is different. Also, I guess it would depend on what type of "look" you are going for.

Thanks for explaining that Tom. I personally understand it, but was looking for a way to explain it to someone else I am trying to help. And of course, you explained it perfectly. Lori

Sorry Dave, God only blessed me with 2 older brothers. No sisters here! :) That is probably why I enjoy doing A LOT of things that guys like doing. I am not a girlie girl. I am a True Texas Tomboy at heart....and fortunately for Michael, I dont look like one...

Well, Mr. Joyce, if memory serves me correctly yes we are tied. But even w/my shaded iron cross that I posted along w/ the maze wrap....Michael just might come out ahead w/the 4-axis tartan. And that is perfectly fine w/me. It is absolutely beautiful and breathtaking and it even caused me to cry a day or so ago. We still have the friendly competition going on in the house. But I think it is a gr

I have to say that I have a wonderful husband. Last week Mike went fishin in some canals (at night) w/a friend of ours. He first dropped his pliers in the water (which retail for 90.00), and as he thought the night couldnt get worse....he then dropped my rod/reel into the water as well. Well, he did a most excellent job of trying to right his wrong. He bought me a 6'6" Fenwick. And he has be

Maybe the different companies dont do that because of copyrights or something? I am just taking an educated guess here. But that would seem the most logical explanation as to why they wouldnt. Also, most people that build rods want to make them "their own" by adding their own decal from their company or w/ their name on it at least. Just so people know who made the rod. Or who customize

Being that I am a mother of 3 kids, and my 2 girls are in school. I think it is REALLY REALLY cool how you guys go into schools to teach rod building classes. That is absolutely amazing. I dont believe anyone has done that in this area. But what a great idea though. You guys get a huge pat on the back from me. That is awesome.

NO ... No heat. You just brush it on. VERY liberally. It will go on white then when it starts to dry it will turn clear. I did 2 coats on an underwrap and it is fine. After it dries, then if you need to apply the epoxy you can. Epoxy (the finish) is where you wanna use the heat. NOT the cp. Hope that helps

I am a newbie, but was told if you put a coat of cp first. that way if you needed to make some "intersection marks" you could use something dull and lightly mark on top of it. I am going to be working on a wrap for a friend. I have done the underwrap in blue/silver trimar. Then I put a couple coats of cp. It is not sticky or anything like that. They were thin coats, but I will be able t

Well, I went for it. I shaded the cross w/ 2 different greens. Then the background was a light brown, that faded to gold met. , then faded to a rust color then closed out w/ brown met. All in all it went pretty well. I am pretty happy about the results. I am going to put that on Michael's ugly stick. He was pretty impressed by it and I guess that is what counts (since it will be on his rod). Mad

Was just curious, has anyone ever tried doing a shaded maltese cross? I have only seen a few posted on the photo pages and they were all one solid color. I am not talking about the background, I am talking about the actual cross itself. A few things stirred up my curiosity....so thought I would ask. Thanks to all you guys for your help. It is so nice to be able to have all of the plethera of info

That is VERY appealing to the eye. I LOVE the different colors you used on the grip and then followed them up the rod to the wrap. Its amazing! All I can say is your friend is a very lucky guy. Soon as my hubby saw it (Michael) he was wishin he was your friend. Your friend will have permagrin for months and should be VERY proud to use it. GREAT JOB! :)

From a woman's stand point. I guess unlike most women, I am the exception to the rule. Here is why I say that. My husband Michael is going to do a wrap on my ugly stick for me. Told him he had full creative BUT DO NOT make it look girly. Told him please do not go crazy w/ purple and pink. I am a tomboy more than a "girlie girl". Course everyones tastes vary. I love to experiment w/ di

In my opinion, you outta grab up every color that you can. Get several hues of each color. That will REALLY help when you are doing shading. The possibilities are virtually endless. I am a girl who LOVES color. So provided I had the money and the room, I would grab up every color made known to man. HA! You can never have too many spools of thread, because everyone is looking for a different "

Russ, we are in South Texas. Thank you for your kind words! My husband and I both really love this craft to the fullest. It is great to know that people love looking at our work just as much as we love doing it. I hope our future customers will feel the same way as you do! Have had some offers to do some rods, but the timing was not quite right. Taking it to the business level full force wont ha
