Thanks David! That’s a lot of questions, I’ll answer the easy ones and take the rest as awesome suggestions. It’s a one piece blank. No idea what it way so I did do the common cent’s measurements and it’s a 6-ish. I’m less worried about it because I’m not sure it will ever get used but it’s perfect to practice building. I ordered a set of guides that started with a 12. I’ve watched/watc

All the parts I have are free and I consider my time free as well. I don’t expect my first attempt to really come out ok so why spend any money on it? Herb I appreciate the offer but I have a hard time spelling calculus. Of course you bring up an excellent point about how to make a cylinder around a cone with a common axis….

Ok, I am just going to go for it. I have an 8-1/2’ blank that should be about a 6wt. I have reel seats, I have piles of cork, I have guides. What do I need to not do wrong first? Fitting the reel seat, should I use masking tape, cork, foam? What works, what’s necessary, and what do the cool kids use?

All good info. It certainly points me in the right direction, I’ll start thinking about some practice rods, I have a lot to work with. Related story my son is in college and a project was to transcribe oral angling histories. He’s been laughing because the tapes he’s been listening to reference all the stuff and brands that I picked up. So I guess it’s officially historically old…. I

Huh, older….wow. The little 4 piece fenwicks have drawn some interest but not much else. I’m keeping at least one to make a backpacking rod. Otherwise as much as people say, “cool” when they see it apparently it’s not really worth anything. Which is good, I have lots to practice on but I don’t know what I can make…? I can throw handles and guides on blanks but what would it be good for

They are all unlabeled except 2 and those are Lamiglas. All from the mid 80s. Pictures look more difficult to post here but I’ll see what I can do.

Thanks guys. Almost had a buyer for it all but it’s still mine. So I have a ton of blanks from 54” to 96” in all manner of power. I need to practice a build but don’t know what to make. Seems like people usually have an idea or a rod they are duplicating or working from, I’m just looking for a stab in the dark. I guess I need to know what I can build into something useful with what I have
