I can tell you what not to use. Adhesive lead tape! I use this for a season on a reel that was removed & rinsed after each outing. At the end of the season I removed the lead tape from the reel foot only to find major corrosion had taken place. I was able to source a new reel foot as it was secured to the reel by screws. I believe the dissimilar metals & the addition of saltwater ca

Having never worked with Rec recoil snakes, I thought it prudent to do some research in case there were different techniques used with them. IE maybe not u

I have not had an issue with feet pulling ever. However I do not own any rods with the guides stated

David,
I have read that some have experienced a foot of the Rec recoil snakes being pulled out from under the wrap from a knot or tangle getting caught in it with a running fish. I'm familiar with using locking wraps on single foot guides but read of at least one person putting locks on these Rec double foot guides. He would cut the tag end long & then wrap the feet posts before pulling u

I'm building an 8 weight fly rod that will be mainly used in saltwater. I purchased Rec RSNX double foot snake guides to hopefully not have any corrosion issues. It is my first time working with these. I've read that some builders use a Forhan or other locking wrap to make them more secure. Just getting these squirrely things taped in place proved to be a challenge for my fat fingers. I do n

Which CP did you use? How many coats? When using CP, I generally put on at least 2 coats. Without CP your thread will darken considerably on a dark blank. I personally prefer the look of my wraps without CP.

I suppose that would work, provided I can find the right color. The marker I used is ridiculously close in color.
Thanks,
Fred

If I'm not satisfied with the test piece, that will be my next try.
Thanks,

Ok, I applied finish to the test piece. So far it looks good. You can see a little bit of streaking from when I applied the marker. I will lightly scotchbrite the repair area before applying my finish to try & blend the marker some.
Thank you all for your input.

Thank you for the quick reply Ross.
I have a couple of questions.
1. If I wrap black thread & apply finish over the marker, will it bleed?
2. I'd

Hello all,
This is my first post here but I've been reading & learning here for some time (years). I'm not new to rod building (built my first rods in the early 90's) but have only built maybe 10 or so. I recently decided to repair a Lamiglass IC 70 MH Inshore Classic that broke cleanly about 2' down from the tip. I followed the repair instructions from Ralph O'Quinn in the library here.
