Herb What are the Common Cents (ERN) values of the two rods in question? What is the Weight (ELN) of the two lines? I have made similar comparsions between Gold Cermets & REC snakes & do not agree with your conclusions when all factors are equal. Lines in particular are very seldom within specifications for the marked line weight. Gil

I have a Temple Fork 7 weight, 9 foot 0 inch fly rod with a cracked guide ring. It is the second guide up from the butt. It has a silver color ceramic ring with a brushed stainless (looking) frame, size 16. Could someone tell me what brand & model guide that Temple Fork used on this rod? Thanks, Gil Mc Millan

Tom, I agree with everything that you said, right to the last statement. Is the 4 weight line that you perfer on the rod with a ERN of 5.5 really a 4 weight? My guess is that it is much heavier. Of all the lines that I have weighed, only Scientific Anglers Mastery XD lines fall in the middle of the AFTMA specification. All new lines tested are HEAVY, some well into the next number & above.

Tom & Anyone Intrested, Several weeks ago I emailed the CCS data site & expressed my intrest in posting line weights. I have not yet recieved a reply. Manufactures line rateings are all over the place, just as are the rod rateings. Lines are easy to weigh & their actual weight is necessary to match a line with a rod unless you go thru trial & error. The ERN of a rod does me no

Has anyone performed any testing to determine the power transfer effectiveness & differences, if any, between attachment of leader to fly line with nail knot, loop to loop with stiff mono & loop to loop with braided slip over. Just thinking, Gil

Michael & Mike For your information I weighed a few guides last night. Single foot REC Ti ring size about 7-8 mm (the smallest that I have on hand & about equal to ring of a 7 mm Gold Cermet) Weight = 1.7 grains Old style 7 mm Gold Cermet Weight = 3.4 grains New style 7 mm Gold Cermet Weight = 2.7 grains (slightly lower frame height) There 7000 grains per pound or 437.5 gra

Micheal What Stan said concerning the "Speed" of a given rod being the same regardless of guides is true. The two rods that you compared have different bending qualities. If you check the CCS data area on this site you will find many Sage blanks under my name. In the rod listing you can find the same blanks as finished rods, again under my name. You will find that the AA remains th

I'm sure that I won't change anyone's mind about what guide is the best, that seems to be a subject that people have very strong oponions about. I am compelled to offer my views anyway, as I also have fairly strong oponions based on my experience. Do not replace your Gold Cermet Guides unless they are sized or placed incorrectly. Some factor other than guide material is causeing the difference

Joe Let me start with the fact that I only use Gold Cermet guides. Myself & my customers perfer them to any other guides & are willing to pay the price. I am a saltwater fisherman as are most of my customers, distance is a primary concern. By actual comparision the Gold Cermets feel slicker, shoot line further & will cast about 10 % further. The blanks that I use are Sage XP's, X

I have weighed single foot Recoils & compared them to Fuji Gold Cermets Single foot Recoil guides are lighter by tenths of a "grain" not tenths of an ounce. There 437.5 grains in one ounce. Double foot recoils are heavier. The finished rod will permorm better with Gold Cermets. The finished rod will likely perform better with Fuji Ti - SIC's although I haven't made that compari

David Thanks for your suggestion, print screen & paint worked perfect. I do know that your program is Visual Wrap not Visual Weap. Thanks for not pointing out my lack of typing skill. Great product. Gil

I have seen the 3 D view of "Visual Wrap" printed in several magazines. I can only print the "Script" & the "Wrapping Instructions" Can someone give me instructions for additional printing Thanks Gil

Herb I might be helpfuf if you ran the Common Cents ERN of both configurations of the rod that you used for the comparsion. If the two tip sections were a little different your conclusions might be affected. Just my thought, Gil

Tim I suggest that you check the weight of the Rio Grande line, I think that you will find that the 5 wt is actually a 5 1/2 or more. Gil

Jeff I am not a blank dealer, I only sell completed rods (Usually Sage) The blank that I mentioned is one of many that I have on hand. It actually is a XP, 9' 0", ERN=6.49 & AA= 70. I would be hurting myself if I sold it as a blank. You might checK with "Mudhole" & "Custom Tackle Supply" they might still have some XP's on hand. If you can't find a Sage anothe

Jeff If you look at the CCS site you will see that I have posted rateings for almost all XP rods. The only one not listed by me is the one that you wanted. I do have that blank in stock, & I will rate it this evening & post yhe results. From my experience with a great many XP blanks, I would be surprisrd if the 9' 0" 6 wt. didn't indicate approx. 7.1 to 7.4 with AA between 67 &
