In the process of building a 9ft flaot rod for steelhead fishing tiny tribs. I glued some camphor burl to some modified sections of Pac Bay's bamboo burl grips(man I wish they sold rings of this stuff) and let her fly on the lathe. Pretty hsppy with what I cam up with. 1st attempt at a split grip.

1st attempt at doing a swelled butt inlay. I used Argus, church, grouse, pheasant, jungle cock and golden pheasant tippets. I also incorperated a split ring and eyescrew hook keeper on the hosel. I think it came out pretty darn good for 1st attempt.

I used brown burl cork, trimmed with purpleheart, bolivian rosewood, and padeuk. Hosel, seat and cap are made from mahoney, trimed with ebony. I was attempting to mimic the style that Terry Henson uses on his grips. This was the first handle I turned with the exotic trim rings. Next is the swelled butt inlay.

Hello - looking for suggestion for a blank to use for Zara spook /top water plugs mostly( sometimes soft jerkbaits) for back bay stripers. the fish rarely get over 10lbs in the back. I'm looking at spinning configuration with a 2500 series reel. I've used 7' rods before and it seems like the longer blank can be an issue with the walk the dog for me. Tks in advance. Looking @ MHX price range.

Looking to build the following build:
Spinning rod for school stripers, fluke, and weaks. In the back off the banks and piers. To cast light jgs, fin s, and plugs. Heaviest I'd heave is an sp minnow or 1.5 Ava in the fall. Thinking 7.5-8.5 ft? Would need 2pc blank. I've been reading about the possibility of a steelhead blank. Looking for a fairly light blank, 3oz or so. Thought and reccomnda

Thanks Karry. Question for you, or anyone that's familiar with spiral wrapping. Would your guide spacing change if I was to do a simple spiral wrap w the guides? 1st casting rod ill be building and have been thinking about doing a spiral wrap. Thanks.

Thanks Jason. I've been fishing the bobbers for quite some time too. I used to LOVE fishing rapalas for trout in streams. I've never done it in the GL's but have always wanted to. spinners, spoons, floats, etc... sounds like I'm thinking like you. I enjoy fishing pins a lot but it gets boring really fast for me catching fish on roe. I thought about using a switch or a short Spey blank as I've

Does anyone have any knowedge if the above named blank works well for overhead beach casting? I'm thinking of building a 7wt for light surfcasting for school stripers, blues, weaks and fluke here in NJ and it should work well for the snook, reds and other smallist stuff I run into when I'm down in SW FL.
I'm not sure about 'flex', grain weights and all that stuff, but its been my experience t

If I didn't clarify that, yes, go with single foot guides. When cast off the spool, the reels actually mimic a baitcaster more than a spinning reel if you ask me...

Well, lots of guys have different ways of doing things I guess. I've built my share of float rods and have picked the brains of some very well regarded float rod builders over the years. High frames are not needed at all. I use the REC's as well and like them for their ability to not freeze up as fast as an inserted guide but a good mid frame guide works very well. Adjust you butt guide accor
