Thanks very much for this Les, this is gold! I know this is speculation but what do you think the impact would be by going to the 20H guide group and size 5KT running/tip guides, using you same reel/line-leader set up? Thanks

Hi All, researching assembly on this seat and I find assembly as follows: 1 - glueing the arbors into the seat and reaming arbors to fit blank. 2 - ream cork handle to fit blank. 3 - glue cork handle to VSS seat and let dry. 4 - glue VSS/cork handle assembly to the blank. Is this how you all put this seat together? When gluing the assembly to the blank does the cork handle "wipe awa

NFC actually sent me an inletted grip so now I'll have to use an uplocking seat. I was expecting a non-inletted grip. No big deal, I will adjust balance with some epoxied lead shot in the butt of the rod before gluing the fighting butt on. I actually prefer uplocking seats cause it gets the threads/nut away from my back fingers.

Sorry I can't address your issue but wondering why epoxy coat a carbon grip?

Thanks Harry - great info and much appreciated. I do have a carbon grip and butt coming from NFC with the blank. Will look into the reel seats mentioned and planning on using all singlefoot guides - no snake at the top and glad you confirmed my impression. Also a standard stripping guide. Thanks

Follow up ? for Harry or any others using this blanks: Harry - now that you have had this blank a little longer any other thoughts or changes you would have made to your build? I am going to evaluate 12 guides and your 13 guide set up. . Would you use a standard snake guide or 2 at the tip for line wrap? Still think a single foot stripping guide is the way to go? What reel seat did you use

Thanks again guys. Harry - what type of leader setup are you using with the FANY 11' 2wt? Also what kind of flies/weight of flies are you fishing? double nymph weighted rigs, dry flies, streamers, etc? Sounds like you fish nice waters with trout in the 18" + range!

Ben - Thanks for the detailed reply. I have used the Orvis Recon extensively and briefly tried the Contact2 and Ideal. Was getting ready to get the Ideal blank but got the news from NFC regarding their new models. How do the NFC-sourced rods/blanks compare to the Ideal nymph in your experience? What length line weights did you use in these rods? I am intereested in the 10' 2 or 3 wt. most

Hi - If you have fished these blanks I'd like to hear your impression - particularly regarding comparison to commercially available finished rods. Also if you've built them any comments regarding the quality and characteristics (flex, tip action, etc) of the blank would be appreciated. I'm interested but would like to get some idea of how these blanks fish before buying one. Thank you

Thanks all. Ordered th pb701mlf during Black Friday sale. Can’t wait to get it on the water. Going to use Fuji vss 17 split grip seat and alconite guides.

I like the locking ring/nut at the top of the grip (downlocking). I'm right handed and found that over the course of the fishing day my right little finger would loosen the lock nut on up locking seats, whether fly rod or spinning.

Hi folks, Reading a lot about Point Blank blanks here and am very intrigued by their high quality and reported unique castability. Looking to make up a spinning rod for total lure weight 1/8 - 3/8 oz, using 10 or 15 lb braid primarily and 2500 or 3000 reels. Looking at the PB701MLF or PB701MF and wondering, based on your experience/usage, which may be the better choice? Certainly also want to

Hello, I would like to make a spinning rod this winter and try CF grips but I've never done CF grips before. I like the Fuji VSS 17 seat with hidden hood and the hidden hood in the front. Can you please tell me what CF grips/hoods you have used with this seat and what else I would need in the way of trim rings, etc. I do like a simple grip cosmetically. Also if you have part numbers that wou

Quick additional follow up on the SB724 - the rod easily handled 5" flukes and senko/wacky rig and the 10 - 14" smallmouths I landed. I did get a large fish on which I thought was the smallie of a lifetime but turned out to be a 2' carp. That fish was no problem for the SB724.

Thanks to all who replied. Through reading old posts I have noted that this sj703 blank is not quite what the nfc specs indicate but acts” lighter”. That may be ok for me as I’m looking for something a slight step above bfs. Like a medium light casting rod for river smallmouth. Mr Miller have you built casting rods on the nfc sb722 and if so how did they work out? That may be the best approach

thanks guys. Seems like a well liked blank in either configuration. Les I have an sb722 in spinning configuration so it seems like a good compliment to an sj703in casting. Eric I hope to also do a simple spiral wrap. Thanks again.

I personally don’t use band seats but I think Ray Lee has some nice looking stuff. I put one of his locking seats on a bamboo fly rod and like it very much.

Hi All, A friend tried my SB722 and likes it but wants a shorter version. I am looking at the SB682 and 683 but the flex profiles and line/lure weights are confusing me. These flex profiles appear to possibly be reversed for these 2 blanks as it seems like the 682 is stiffer (according to the flex picture) but has the lighter line/lure ratings. I would appreciate the help of you experienced f

David - you're welcome. If you've ever been over to PA fishing for smallmouth - Clarion, Allegheny, etc then you know the bigger waters I plan to use this SB724 on. It was sensitive in that I could feel rocks, etc and the takes were very easy to feel. Again I'm relatively new at this spinning rod stuff, and there may have been takes I didn't feel, but after tight line nymphing for trout for yea

Thanks Spencer - the SB724 was clearly more rod than needed on that particular water but it was new and I wanted to try it. I will use that rod for much bigger water like the Susquehanna and Allegheny rivers and Presque Isle in Lake Erie. Also on local bigger rivers where I cast farther and use the heavier lures. On that creek (they call it a river) yesterday the SB722 or other light/med lt ro

Some follow up: I used the rod yesterday for about 5 hours. The creek/river is about 60' - 80'' wide and depth varies with shallow riffles and pools up to about 5 -6' deep but most area are 2'-3' deep. Water was cold and fishing was slow but I managed to land 5 trout from 8 - 14", 2 smallmouth, under a foot each, and 2 fall fish each about 13-14". As you can imagine the SB724 made s

Thanks for the info fellas - much appreciated. I am a fly rod guy and just getting into making nice spinning rods - glad to have your expertise available. Will stick with the sb724 for now. Today was slow fishing but first time using the braid was good and although I only got 4 fish I don't think I missed any strikes/hook sets. Will certainly give my impression of the SB724 after using it
