I bought a decal printer from Custom Labeling Systems (Vender on the left). Larry Tobin at the LRT Group is great to work with. Seems to always be available to answer questions and give direction. Material comes in array of colors and sizes. This is a great system if you do a lot of labels. they are great to work with also

If you want the thread to disappear on the rod I would choose a couple of colors that you think match very close. Do a short test wrap with each color then wet it with a drop of water. This method has shown me what the final color will be (or close) once finish is applied without the use of color preserver. Hope this helps, as I don't know the exact color. Mike Doran Spring, Texas

I also think they have a reverse thread. Turn counter clockwise and the handle should not come off. If I am not mistaken if you use them in a drill (I use an 18v Dewalt) they recommend that you run them in reverse so that the spacing in the emery clothe helps to remove the cork or EVA dust.

Andy, I did a John Deere rod a while back. I used Gudebrod NCP 6779 (Med. Green) and NCP 6778 (Lemon Yellow). It came out really nice. I don't have pictures, wish I did. Take a look, my customer thought it was excellent. Mike Doran MD Custom Rods Spring, Texas

Is there a rule of thumb for the length of wrap on the female end of a tip over but, multi-piece rods? I know I read it somewhere but can't locate it now. As I remember it was 2.5 times the diameter. Is this correct?

I just completed a John Deere theme, althought it was on a matte gray blank. (Last coat of finish turning as I type.) I used ProWrap 519 for the green and I think Prowrap 101 for the yellow. On my blank it came out extremely close to John Deere. I would do a couple of test wraps with finish to see how the green blank effects the thread color.

I have to agree with Kerry, Rainshadow IP843. I have built 3 for myself and 6 for other people to fish the Texas Gulf coast.. Everyone thinks they are the best they have fished with. Mike Doran MD Custom Rods Spring, Texas

According to what I have seen, the new strip material from Larmar Fishing is available in 1/8, 1/4 and 1/2 inch thick blocks. You could take a wood workers plug cutting drill bit and a drill press and cut your own plugs. It may take some reaming to get the right fit but should work when trying to match the pattern or color of the end ring on the grip. Mike Doran Spring, Texas

I was just wondering how many of the Houston, Texas area rod builders were planning to attend the Exposition. As of this minute I plan to be there. Send me an e-mail, maybe we can all get together while in NC. Mike Doran MD Custom Rods

Try doing a test wrap with the regular nylon threads of choice. Then wet them with a little water. This will give an indication what the thread color will be without CP. This has worked well for me in the past. Mike Doran Spring, Texas

Doug - I did a St. Croix 7foot Medium Light Fast that was Spruce Green. Used Gudebrod 638. When I looked at the spool I said "no way". Did a short test wrap, wet it with water and it turned extremely close to the color of the blank. I did a three wrap inlay and I can see the tag ends through the wrap. I like the nail knot approach for a trim band. Mike Doran Houston, Texas

I have been building rods for several years now and only been reading the board for quite some time. And decided that is was time to chime in and say thanks. The info that I have found here has been of considerable help in my learning experience. What an addictive hobby. I would like to thank all of you Masters for the guidance that I have received. I do have a question about RMM. I ha
