Scott, Thanks for that info....I did use FC CP on it and loaded it up. It appeared to soak in but likely did not in some areas. I also had some info to try some 811 or another CP instead of FC. So I might also try that. Thanks again Dave

Andrew, I know the look you are talking about..lol. I will remember that now when using light colors on dark blanks. I just received another blank to start it is a Rogue Rod 7' blank in charcoal. I am thinking Candy Apple on it, but then again maybe Cobalt Blue. Did Candy Apple on 6-6 St. Croix black blank, and had similar issue. I am sure it is the packing process...we will see on this n

Neal I put 2 good wet coats on, and it dried pretty much for like 18 hours i'd say. I was just buzzing through some of the other forum questions that somewhat dealt with this and I think Doug is right with the packing. I usually get the wrap started and just buzz it by hand till the tie off then burnish i am not really packing the wraps as i go. Dou you do that after each wrap or after 3-5 wra

Hello All, I have a question in regards to lighter thread colors on dark blanks. I have just completed my second rod, and have found that on both rods i got a nice smooth finish on threads, however if I can explain this......after thread finish dries it appears that some thread looks good but in some areas it appears you can see like wetness under the thread. For instance on this last rod I

Mike, More great info from you thanks very much. I think between getting some better lighting in my space..lol, and thinking about silver underwraps, or something such as you have mentioned that should pretty much take care of anything i need. Again I really appreciate it! I just finished my first rod and already have 3-4 others planned....this is worse than any drug addiction I think..lol.

Thanks to all for your help on this!! I got all the guides epoxied and after that was done the thread did indeed stand out a bit more, although seemingly still shades darker. I then took the rod outside on saturday to look it over and was amazed at how bright and vivid the color was! Obviously i need better lighting in my building area...lol. Anyway just want to give you all the update. Th

Patrick yeah I put one real good soaking coat on the Candy Apple last night and it got darker, maybe Scarlet was bad descritpion just darker than i really wanted it to be. Sounds like it might brighten up little bit after thread epoxy is applied. Yes i used FC and yes it was milky. Have heard quite a bit about the 811 I will try it next rod and see how that goes.....being my first rod maybe

Tom, Thanks for the info....I dont know why I thought I could keep the original color, but that is great info to know for future use. Is one really good coat enough before starting epoxy? Yeah the blank I am working with is a St. Croix SCII blank and it is black. Is the only way to keep close to original color by using NCP thread instead of the non NCP thread? OR when epoxy is applied will

Hello All, I am coming into the home stretch of my first rod, and have a question. I applied a good coat of FC color preserver last night on A size Gudebrod Candy Apple thread. Got good coat on it and it soaked in nicely, my question is how long will it take to come back to the original color. It has gone to like a Scarlet color and I am little upset by this wanted to try to retain that Can

Hello all, I posted wrong the first time.....that's what happens when you dont read instructions..lol. I have a Rainshadow IS601 UL blank and the Od of butt is ~.235" the cork rings for the rear and fore grips have .250" ID. Can I use couple layers of spiraled masking tape to make up that little space? I slid on some of the rings and they are just loose enough to slide all the way
