Scott, the torque is why I was thinking of the fuji concept alconites. I thought they sat closer to the blank to reduce twisting. REC guides sit closer? What size tip are we talking about Paul? 7mm? 8MM?

Building a 13' 3pc 8/9 spey. Got the seat and grips on it. I am now working on picking out some guides. I looked at the lists on the board for batson 13' spey rods and was thinking of a similar number. Would the fuji alconite concept guides work. The single foot fly model was what I was thinking of. I would use 6, 8, and 10 sizes. Then I was thinking a 16 stripper and a 20 stripper. Thoug

Thanks guys, didnt know whether or not that was too much space to fill. I have only built one other rod and remember having to widen the reel seat a bit to get a wrap of tape to fit between it and the rod so that there was something to bond to. That seemed better to me than filling a gap that was already there. I will look into the graphite and brickfoam.

Pretty basic question I am sure but a question none the less. I just got my hands on a 13' 8/9 diamondback spey blank. This is my first spey build. I am planning on using a 5.5" bottom grip, and a 13.5-14" top grip. At the 5.5" to 6" area of the blank I measure 9/16" diameter or .563. What size inside diameter on a spey seat should I be looking for. I am finding thi

I am about to put my reel seat on my first rod and have a question. I have it fitted to the blank just fine but am wondering about positioning. Do I want the insert to sit flush with the butt end of the blank, or do I want the blank to stick out from the insert a bit so that it sits flush with the butt cap? If the first way is correct do I fill that empty space with epoxy?

I am starting my first project in the next week. I am building on a 9' 6wt 2pc All star austin blank. I have read the static guide placement article but dont really understand it so much. I figure I will a bit better once I get this first rod finished. Was hoping that someone who has built on this blank might post the guide spacing they used so that I could build using them as a guideline.
