Travis,
Good Question, and one I believe everyone has while progressing in the art of rod making. If you don't have a mentor to show you exactly how tight is enough, then how do you know? You say you are more comfortable with your rod building. Well I believe you have reached another milestone. At least that's how I felt when I finally understood how tight was tight enough. Things just seemed to

'Thanks for the replies. I'll surely change the spread sheet to what I use. I was just curious as to what the above mentioned columns stood for. Since nothing I build requires under wraps it made hard for me to figure it out.
Thanks again for your answers

I'm in the process of building my own rod spec spreed sheet. I understand Tom's spec sheet until I get to
u/w lgths wrap ext tag width guide wrap then the A B C columns.
Can someone explain what these mean? No doubt it'll be one of those DUH! moments.
thanks

Roger I believe I'll do as you say and lose the graphite arbors. I do like your method of sizing the ones I have. Thank you for your insight.

Tom I'm not looking for perfection but I feel I'd have to do something with them just to be sure they are centered. Seems a lot of space to take up with epoxy. I do understand what you're saying though. Billy that was my thought exactly. Scott thanks for your offer I've checked out all our sponsors but will check your site again. For now I think I'll try the urethane type arbors. Chris can't ar

I purchased Fuji reel seat graphite arbors NSA 16, NSA 18, & Nsa 20. The 16's measure (on average) 14.98mm, the
18's (again average)17.78mm & the 20's 19.30mm. So the only ones that even come close to fitting are the 18's @ 17.78mm. The 16's & 20's easily slide right on though the reel seats. Is there something faulty with the arbors? If not what should I do to make up difference o

Mike, Try looking at the post 16 down from yours. It may answer your question. You could do a search as I've seen posts before on neon thread. Try searching for the last 90 days or a year I'm sure you'll find what you're looking for.

I can see the merit in using scalpels in my thread work. I'm wondering if I can get some advise on the shape and size of the blade, also the handles. I'd like to purchase 100 blades and handles to match from an @#$%& site. So It would be nice to have some input so I get this right the first time.

Did a Denver Bronco weave for a friend. First I used size A ncp for my pattern and size C ncp for the wrap on a scrap piece of blank. I wasn’t happy with the gaps I was getting with the C thread. I was happy with my pattern though and epoxied it. It looked good with no bleeding of the colors. So looking in my thread box I come up with Anglers Workshop B opaque (according to AW Opaque threads do

I have a hunch that once somebody starts molding pre-formed cores or even pre-formed and skinned grips, you'll see them on a lot more rods.
Since the materials necessary to pour foam handles has a short shelf life I cannot see myself buying any time soon. I am very interested and was hoping someone would make up a f

As I haven't been able to get on the net due to my work schedule. I did want to thank Mike Barkley, Mark Griffin,
Bill Stevens,Jon Edwards & Russ Pollack for their answers on how to wrap two threads. I'm doing pretty good winding the two threads and I'll try some of your suggestions. In the article of rodmaker it stated that you should move the wrapped threads around with a burnishing tool.

Could someone please explain to me the best way to wind two threads at one time. One thread inlays are not really a problem but when it comes to the 3D Tiger Wraps it becomes a bit of a chore. I am using a Pac Bay wrapper can two threads be accommodated with modifications to the current thread holder? I’ve been looking at bobbins and wonder which one would be recommended as there is quite at sp

From the static guide placement sys. in the library. "first guide behind the tip (4 inches or so for most lighter rods and 5 or maybe 6 for heavier rods or surf types)."
on lighter tip sections there is a lot of stress on a small diameter blank so the guide is moved up to 4inches or so from the tip top to keep from breaking the rod. If it's a heavier tip section then you can mo
