This is a tree that the beavers took down. I found the absolute best bark is laying partially in the water for at least one season. The bark comes off very easily. I was able to select the very smotthest bits of the tree. Just a stanley knife and scraper is all thats needed

Just finished turning this.A mix of burl, corian and burl wood without finish. Im thinking about CA. I'll probably modify the shape a little once its glued up. Grip is 1 1/16" @ biggest dia I have burl wood material to match for the seat and fighting butt with some nice light sapwood in it.

I had some left over material so I made these handles on some steel rods for gluing up my grips. I remove the mandrel after clamping. The handles just made it easier

A nice fish to break in a rod. 10' 5 weight.Caught on a #16 CDC Emerger. Fish was challenging to cast to as it was rising inches away from a fallen log. The extra foot gives the option for a big slack line cast for times like this!!!

Here it is with finish on it. Threadmaster turned by hand. I listened to Mike Barkley and left the finish alone once it was on!! A few bubbles and some bleed. I was going to cut it off but Ill leave it for now. I always feel that my finished projects are way to flawed. Im far to picky and thinking medication would help? :>)

I posted this handle awhile back before it was on the rod. It was a bit dirty so sanded and put a crosswrap in front of it. REC hardware with rosewood insert

I finally got some Maderia and tried my hand at a butt wrap. I just made it up as I went along. It kinda looks like asparagus!!! I couldnt put it down once I started and found it quite addictive. After seeing all the impressive work on here I said to myself "I want a rod like that". Next purchase is Billy's book!!

This is my first attempt at the nail knot method for doing trim. I usually do pull through. Can anybody who uses this method tell me if this looks correct? I notice theres a small bump. Is this a problem for finishing as I like to keep the epoxy to a min. TIA

This is my first attempt at a BB handle. Ends of grip are Laguna Burl and Burnt. It only has the first coat of oil on it. It for a 10' 5 wt. The feel of the bark is VERY nice!! Thanks to Antti for sharing the idea and to all of those who answered my questions.

Thanks to Dave Orr for posting. I ground it first with a stone then finished it with paper to get a fine edge. Works GREAT. I found that it cuts cleaner if you use the same pilot hole in the backing board for each one

Finally finished it. Really going to enjoy working in here. LOTS of light and should be easy to keep clean. The room is 12 X 8. I wish it was bigger but it will do for now.

I got this Axminster collet chuck for use with Andy's mandrels. I thought it would be good because you can choke the mandrel as short as you like for reel seat work. Collets for it go from 1 mm to 16mm. This one is a 7mm to 8mm with a 5/16 mandrel. See the other photos for more detail.
