Anybody have a USG-12 laying around? I'll be happy to paypal some bucks for one. I'm guessing that this style guide is discontinued since I can't find it at my regular suppliers. I need it to replace a broken guide on a rod.
Thanks!!

Does anyone have a source for these grips? Mudhole is my normal supplier but they're on back order.

Your method will vary depending on your blank material. If your working on an eglass blank or even a solid glass blank you can be a little more agressive. On eglass blanks I'll use a little heat (much the same way I would heat epoxy while on the rod) and then use my thumb nail to scrape off the epoxy. Sometimes I'll use a small tipped (or pointed) pick or spatula to grab the epoxy and "push&

Jay - To answer your question - Yes, CP applied to guide wraps will impede your epoxy application to the tunnels. The CP that you've appled to the thread seals the thread. Therefore, when you apply epoxy to the mouth of the tunnel the epoxy doesn't wick through the tunnel because there is no way for air to escape, except back through the mouth of the tunnel. This problem is averted in foot tunne

Thanks for the responses guys. I should have added my contact info on my original post but I'll tack it on here. I'm trying to put together a rod building/fishing club - trading ideas, techniques, contacts, fishing tournaments, etc. If any of you have any interest in joining drop me a line. If you're not close to the South Palm Beach county area, don;t fret. I see no reason why we can't have meet

Are there any South Florida rod builders out there that want to get together - meet, fish, build, exchange ideas?
I'm in Southern Palm Beach County. I've been building for a little over 13 years. I know of a few builders in the area but I'm trying to see if there are others around that may be on this forum.
Thanks,
Nick

My computer that I have my MD-1000 hooked up to has died. I tried to resurrect it, but to no avail. I can't get either of my other two computers to communicate effectively with the Alps! I had to buy the USB cable for the printer, downloaded various drivers from Yahoo Groups but all I can do is print in black. I need to be able to make silver and gold metallic decals.

Personally I like to use medium action blanks for Kingfishing. Kings have pretty soft mouths and when they decide to unexpectedly run and rocket I like to have the rod absorb that run, rather than pull the hooks. I guess a fast action blank would work as long as it weren't over powered (which is the case with the 70XL). However, I think that a 10-25# rating might be a little light. If you're loo

I fought this same problem when I started! I would look at pictures of other folks long wraps with "mirror like" finishes and then I'd look at mine and get frustrated with my "rolling country road" finish.
Then another experienced builder clued me in.... He explained to me that he used a spatula. Now, I don't mean a little mixing spatula. I'm talking about a putty spatula (

I don't know if line wieght is the determining factor between standard guides and roller guides. I think it has more to do with your targeted species. I have quite a few rods built for 80# and up using regular guides (most of them spiral wrapped) but they are all used for bottom fishing. The bottom dwellers I am targeting don't perform reel sizzling runs. If, on the other hand, you are looking to

I think the more coats you use the more your wraps will look like CP. You have to figure that after a while your threads have to be suuficiently "soaked" in CP, after that the CP is just building up around the outside of the threads.
As far as 5-6 coats.....It would depend 1) if you are thinning the CP with alcohol 2) how thick each application is and 3) what kind/size thread are we ta
