Thanks for all the info! You've given me some things to think about. My favorite was the car door one because, like a lot of us, I've actually done that one ..I looked up the CARL method and that seems like the way to go. I wish I could sacrifice one of the rods to make one good one but I don't think I could get myself to do that..

I bought two used rods at Cape cod that I would like to turn into two piece rods. One is 11 ft one is 12 ft. Only reason is, I don't live near saltwater ,and so when I travel there,I need to break them down. They're both pretty old rods I think and they look like they were homemade because there's no identifying marks on the blanks and I see some drips around the wrappings. All the eyes are wire
